Riot Games confirmed regional allocations for the 2022 VALORANT Champions Tour at VALORANT Masters and Champions. The developer detailed the start times for Challengers events around the world, and the slots for Masters and Champions for the different regions were displayed along with Riots plans around the allocations.
For masters, North America, the Europe, Middle East and Africa region and South East Asia all have two, three and two slots respectively. The South East Asian region will also feature teams from Oceania in 2022. This differs from last year, when Oceania was a part of the North American qualification system, specifically for Champions. Brazil, Latin America, Korea and Japan have been given one spot each, with Brazil and Latin America sharing an additional spot that each region’s teams will compete for before each 2022 VALORANT Masters event. SEA will also feature teams from South Asia.
In the announcement, Riot stated that larger regions were given more spots based on “player populations and competitiveness.”
For VALORANT Champions, 16 teams will qualify, with 10 qualifying through VALORANT Challengers points and six through regional Last Chance Qualifier tournaments. In total, North America will receive three slots. Brazil and LATAM will receive four combined, one exclusively for each and then two for both through Last Chance Qualifiers. EMEA will have three and Korea, SEA and Japan will have one, two and one, respectively. APAC will also have two Last Chance Qualifiers, one Korea and Japan and the other for SEA, South Asia and OCE.
The final item in Riot’s announcement describes a process for Game Changers players to compete on the international stage at VALORANT Masters and Champions 2022.
“A maximum of one Game Changers Alumni on a team’s starting roster will be counted as a resident of the team’s home region for the purpose of fulfilling the Regional Roster Requirement,” Riot states in the article.
How this will work, in practice, or how this incentivizes teams to add women players is, as of yet, unclear.
