Breakdown

For 5 mana in the Naya colors, Rienne, Angel of Rebirth is a 5/4 legendary angel with flying. She gives your other multicolored creatures +1/0 and lets you regain any of them that die on the end step. These stats are already solid on their own, but the ability is all upside. Standard already has a couple of payoffs for playing multicolored creatures and spells, like Hero of Precinct One and Glass of the Guildpact. Pack a deck full of multicolored creatures that are just generically good, like Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice, and the value quickly spirals out of control. Your creatures become hard to block, and every time your opponent kills them they just come back. If Rienne sticks around for a few turns, the value you get from her can be overwhelming.

As for eternal formats, Rienne, Angel of Rebirth could see some play in Modern. Multicolored creature-centric decks have been a thing before. They often play cards like Voice of Resurgence and Bant Sureblade but haven’t had a strong multicolored payoff like this before. The only drawback about Rienne is that she’s 5 mana, which may be a bit too slow. It is possible to ramp into her though, and she’s already in green, so it’s not far fetched at all. The grindy value she gives will be a huge asset to decks like this, so it’ll definitely be interesting to see if a new deck emerges.

Rienne, Angel of Rebirth also seems like a fantastic commander card. You can play her as your commander and build a sweet Naya multicolored creature deck. She also fits well in “99”, boosting 5-color creature decks by giving them an anthem and a great source of recursion.

What do you think of Rienne, Angel of Rebirth? Is she strong enough to see play in Modern, or is she just a fun build-around card for Standard? Let us know down in the comments below!
