Ranking the best SMGs to use in Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5

The best options in the SMG class
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

Traditionally, the assault rifles are at the center of attention when it comes to weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone. They’ve always been the most consistent and versatile, boasting above-average stats and situational use across the board. However, the submachine guns of Warzone are just as consistent and players often turn to their SMG in a pinch. Given players’ propensity for using SMGs, it’s no wonder that so many ask which is the best SMG.

In Season 5 of Warzone, there are myriad of SMGs that are usable, but here we’ll be focusing on what we consider the best three. The chosen SMGs also have their recommended loadout shown so players have the best information when equipping them.

3. Tec-9 (Cold War)

The newest SMG in Warzone turns out to be one of the best options for players. At first glance, the Tec-9 might not seem like much, as it’s a three-round burst SMG. Those haven’t fared well in past Call of Duty titles or in Warzone. However, when players equip the full-auto attachment, the Tec-9 turns into one of the best SMGs in the game. It features great damage, stellar accuracy and balanced range for an all-around solid weapon.

Recommended loadout:

  • Muzzle: Full Auto Repeater
  • Barrel: 4.9″ Task Force
  • Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight
  • Stock: Raider Stock
  • Ammunition: STANAG 48 Rnd

2. Bullfrog (Cold War)

This spot had a couple of contenders, with other SMGs like the Modern Warfare’s MP5 and OTs 9 vying for an appearance. However, it goes to the Bullfrog for two reasons: its magazine size and mobility. Thanks to the enormous base size of the Bullfrog’s magazine, players are able to spend an extra attachment spot for added mobility. In this case, the Bruiser Grip. The extra mobility, paired with the Bullfrog’s already-great stats and huge base magazine, makes it one of the best SMGs to use in Season 5.

The MW MP5 and OTs 9 don’t have this versatility and aren’t as strong as the number one SMG on this list.

Recommended loadout:

  • Muzzle: GRU Suppressor
  • Barrel: 7.4″ Task Force
  • Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight
  • Stock: KGB Skeletal Stock
  • Underbarrel: Bruiser Grip

1. Mac-10 (Cold War)

For the third season in a row, the Mac-10 takes the top spot for the SMG class. Its one true competitor is the OTs 9, as they both deal high damage at close range. However, the Mac-10 gets the edge thanks to its minimal recoil. The OTs 9 has a little more recoil than the Mac-10, making it less versatile and harder to control at range. Players who’ve used the Mac-10 know all about its fast fire rate, tremendous time-to-kill and versatility that makes it the best SMG in Warzone.

Recommended loadout:

  • Muzzle: Agency Suppressor
  • Barrel: 5.9” Task Force
  • Body: Tiger Team Spotlight
  • Ammunition: STAGNAG 53 Rnd Drum
  • Stock: Raider Stock
