The third Overwatch League match of Saturday of week three turned out to be a small upset. The Seoul Dynasty beat the Dallas Fuel in a 4-0 sweep.
A need to be proven
In the case of this match, both of these teams had similar issues last season. The Fuel and the Dynasty seemed to be great teams from the start, but lots of players underperformed and a bunch of roster changes happened. In both teams cases, they had only one stage last season where they performed as advertised — with Seoul’s being in stage one while Dallas’ was in stage four. But this season was promised to be different, for both squads. While Seoul was inconsistent in stage one, they seem to be finding their footing. Dallas had some key wins against tough opponents, but they still lost winnable matches. This match was simply to find out which team has a better cohesion right now, and Seoul proved that their substitutes have that in spades. On the Dallas side, the bright spots were Zachary “ZachaREEE” Lombardo and Dylan “aKm” Bignet.
Substitutes lead the charge
The major news for this match was that three big players for the Dynasty weren’t starting: Chan-hyung “Fissure” Baek, Byung-sun “Fleta” Kim, and Seung-soo “Jecse” Lee. These three players were considered their best three, so seeing them resting was very interesting. In their place were substitutes Min-seo “Marve1” Hwang, Dong-eon “FITS” Kim, and veteran Jin-mo “tobi” Yang. All three of these players were immense in their dominant victory, with Tobi showing off his great Lucio play and getting a deserved player of the match. This different lineup seemed to confuse the Fuel. They didn’t stand a chance against the great play of the three substitutes.
The Dallas Fuel plays against the Los Angeles Valiant in Dallas next. The Seoul Dynasty face off against the Valiant the day after.
