Overwatch: How to use Echo’s Duplicate ability

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Echo is now live on the Overwatch Public Test Region (PTR) and available to play. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Overwatch‘s 32nd hero is her ultimate ability, Duplicate. Here’s what the ability does, how to use it, and the different settings for using it.

What does Duplicate do?

When Echo uses Duplicate, she targets an enemy hero and turns into them for 15 seconds. During this time, she charges the duplicated hero’s ultimate ability extremely quickly. She also gains full health when duplicating a hero, regardless of what health she’s at when she uses the move. If Echo dies during Duplicate, she returns to herself at full health.

How to use Echo’s ultimate

Duplicate is one of the most versatile and unpredictable ultimates in Overwatch. Enemy players won’t know who Echo is going to turn into, and they’ll have a hard time countering the ultimate if they don’t act quickly. This gives her a lot of options when it comes to using the ability.

Using Duplicate will be heavily situational. Sometimes it will be beneficial to Duplicate a tank hero like Reinhardt for a big Earthshatter. Sometimes it will be better to use it on a healer like Ana or Moira to keep the team healthy and get a Nano Boost or Coalescence off. Other times it will be best to use on a Damage hero.

Be sure to pay attention to your teammates and check what ultimates they have up before using your ult. If, for example, you have an Ana on the team who has her Nano Boost and the enemy team has a Genji, it would be a great time to Duplicate the Genji and get a quick Nano Blade off. Situational awareness will make or break an Echo ultimate.

Duplicate settings

Overwatch offers two settings to make Duplicate easier for Echo players to use. “Duplicate requires target confirmation” makes it so players select the target with the ability and then have to confirm it to use it. This prevents accidentally clicking the wrong target. Players can also adjust the sensitivity of the move to make it more precise.

Echo options

Make sure to mess around with the settings a bit and find what works best for you. Echo is bound to be powerful, so if you want to play her, head over to the PTR and give her a go!
