It looks like Origen might have found their stride in the LEC as they’ve secured their first 2-0 week. They would cap off a great week four with a strong victory over Schalke 04.

Schalke 04 was coming into this week looking like one of the best teams in the region. Earlier this weekend, they would take down a fellow top team in Misfits Gaming and were looking poised to be the only ones to challenge the G2 Esports super team. The team would also be praised for their great macro skills and amazing coaching. They also have arguably the strongest bottom lane in the LEC, as well as great team synergy across the roster.
Meanwhile, Origen was heading into week four looking a bit inconsistent with their performances throughout the entire split so far. They were one of the most hyped teams of the new year. However, they have not really lived up to the expectations of the fans. Yesterday, they were able to take down Rogue but not many people were impressed. Rogue was the worst team in the league by a wide margin. They needed a statement win on a top team in order to reinvigorate everyone’s hopes into this lineup once again.
Origen makes their mark
Finally, Origen is showing their true potential after three weeks of uncertainty. The team’s individual performances were good enough, but what really shone today was their team play. Origen’s macro was superb and would drag Schalke 04 all around the map. Their decision making would lead to smart team fights, which they would use to further their leads for themselves. We need to point out standout performances from Jonas “Kold” Andersen and Erlend “Nukeduck” VÃ¥tevik Holm. Kold had some great setups in order to get Nukeduck ahead early, which was a big catalyst for their victory.

Meanwhile, Schalke 04 looked quite unlike themselves today. We were just done praising them for great macro skills and decision making in our LEC power rankings. However, today they did not seem to be on the right page as a group. Schalke 04 kept making some uncharacteristic mistakes, both in lane and further in the game. It was like Origen and Schalke 04 switched positions for a moment. It was a pretty lopsided affair, with Origen taking four dragons, Rift Herald and Baron. Meanwhile, Schalke 04 would only manage to take two towers and two kills to Origen’s eleven towers and thirteen kills.
Final Thoughts
This is now Origen’s third win in a row, after taking down SK Gaming and Rogue beforehand. If they want to continue their climb up the standings, they will need to focus on what made them strong today. Their team play was amazing and Kold finding great plays with Nukeduck in the mid lane. Additionally, Alfonso “Mithy” Aguirre RodrÃguez was looking really good in this matchup, playing much more decisive and smart.
On the other hand, Schalke 04 needs to learn from this loss and move forward. They are still one of the best teams in the league, but now they know they aren’t all-powerful just yet. They need to stop trying to force too many plays, and they have to keep playing smarter. This was a pretty big bump in the road, but nothing that they can’t handle as a group. They will be facing off against Vitality next week, who they’ve already beaten.
