Nintendo clarifies Piranha Plant DLC bug still being investigated

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

We have an update regarding an earlier story about a potential bug with the newest DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Piranha Plant. Nintendo has given a statement to Newsweek that does, in fact, confirm the existence of the character having an issue in All-Star mode. Nintendo ran a few tests of its own however and stated it was not able to replicate the issue.

We are aware that some users are posting about possible issues with the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update. After extensive testing, Nintendo has not been able to confirm that there is an issue, although we will continue to investigate and monitor the situation.

So right now the developers are giving players the go-ahead to continue using the most recent DLC fighter until they say otherwise. For players who want to remain cautious, maybe hold off on using him in All-Star mode. Perhaps it will be safer once another update is released. Luckily there are no reports of Piranha Plant being an issue in other game modes including World of Light. What worried players the most was users reporting online that this Piranha Plant issue was causing their game to not only crash and become corrupted but to make them lose their precious save data as well.

Get ready for more DLC fighters

More DLC fighters are on the way (five in total) including Joker from Persona 5 who will be the first one you get if you purchased the Fighter Pass. Rumors have been swirling around the web about who the others will be, but for now, we will have to speculate and hope until Nintendo is ready to let us know. Popular choices include characters from games such as Minecraft, Doom, and even Dragon Quest. All interesting picks. For now, we do advise caution when using Piranha Plant in All-Star mode but continue to enjoy using him in the rest of the game!
