Nickmercs signs with FaZe Clan days after leaving 100 Thieves

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Well, that didn’t take long. Popular Fortnite Twitch streamer Nick “Nickmercs” Kolcheff has signed a contract with FaZe Clan. This comes right on the heels of his falling out with 100 Thieves and its owner, Matt “Nadeshot” Haag.

No one really saw this move coming from FaZe or Nickmercs. Both are caught in the middle of some serious drama at the moment, and neither side was expected to make a move so suddenly. FaZe has the Tfue and H1ghSky1 problems while Nickmercs revealed the darker side of 100 Thieves.

However, even among the chaos, this partnership does make sense. Both Nickmercs and FaZe preach loyalty above all else, and in joining FaZe, Nickmercs can now flourish even more than he already was.

It’s no secret that FaZe Clan likes to go after any big name in esports. While they do take in some unknowns and help them grow — Tfue for example — they enjoy making the big splashes. This is perhaps the biggest splash they could have possibly made at this moment in time.

Nickmercs, recently a free agent, needed a new home after deciding to leave 100 Thieves after over two years. The first content creator to join 100 Thieves, this news didn’t come as a shock to most. Nick was complaining about the direction the organization is taking for quite some time.

Although, leaving and then almost immediately joining 100 Thieves’ top competitor is a message. With OpTic Gaming now out of the picture, FaZe needed a new rival. Enter 100 Thieves.

What this means for Nickmercs

All in all, this shouldn’t change much for Nickmercs. He will still stream Fortnite daily and bring the same high energy and top gameplay he always has. For the time being, the only thing that will change is the icon under his webcam overlay on stream.

However, if he qualifies for the Fortnite World Cup, he will give FaZe yet another entry. Though he is expected to qualify in some capacity, that time has not come yet.

Neither Nadeshot nor 100 Thieves has commented on this story yet. In a stream on Tuesday, Nadeshot made it a point to say he will not be talking about Nickmercs whatsoever. Of course, that was before Nick signed with FaZe Clan right down the road.
