New Pokémon and regional forms revealed for Scarlet and Violet

The list of available Pokémon in Gen 9 continues to grow

Wednesday’s Pokémon Presents livestream highlighted a few of the new monsters that are coming to the Paldea region. The line-up of new Pokémon includes both brand new creatures for Scarlet and Violet and regional forms of existing Pokémon.

Paldean Wooper was the only regional form to get the spotlight in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet presentation. Unlike its Water/Ground-type variant from Johto, Paldean Wooper is a Poison/Ground-type. It lives on land, not at sea, covering its own body with a poisonous film for protection.

The yeasty Pokémon Fidough is a brand new Fairy-type in the Paldea region. It can puff up its elastic body to become larger in an attempt to intimidate other Pokémon. Of course, the people of Paldea have found greater use for Fidough in the kitchen than in battle. After all, its yeast has proven quite useful for cooking.

Finally, the Pokémon Presents highlighted new Ice-type Tera Whale Pokémon, Cetitan. This massive horned creature is nearly 15 feet tall and weighs more than 1,500 pounds. In addition, the Ice-type Gym Leader Grusha makes use of Cetitan in her Gym Battle.

More Pokémon and regional forms in Scarlet and Violet

While the Pokémon Presents only focused on the three aforementioned new Pokémon, players can also expect a plethora of brand new Pokémon to be revealed in the coming months. A previous leak from Centro Leaks, which correctly identified the existence of a Poison-type Wooper, also claimed that many regional forms and other kinds of Pokémon variants will make their debuts in Scarlet and Violet.

Meanwhile, other new mechanics will add to the depth of previously-announced Pokémon. For example, every Pokémon will have a distinct Tera type that will influence their appearance and their type bonuses when they take advantage of the Terastal phenomenon.

In addition, the box legendaries of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Koraidon and Miraidon, can change their appearance. In doing so, these Pokémon can help trainers navigate the Paldea region by land, air, or sea. Players can experience all the new Pokémon that Paldea has to offer when Scarlet and Violet launch on November 18.
