Mortal Kombat 11 camera mod

New Mortal Kombat 11 mod changes camera to first-person POV

Just when you think that Mortal Kombat 11 (or Mortal Kombat in general) can’t get bloodier, a modder has developed a mod to switch the camera in the to game to a first-person point-of-view (POV). Many of the attacks are cringe-worthy just from the side-scrolling POV, but if you want to see how horrific it is from your fighter’s eyes, now you can.

Mortal Kombat modder Ermaccer is the person behind the MK11Hook mod, which was based on the modder’s previous mod for Mortal Kombat X. The MK11Hook mod allows players to adjust game speed, controls, and the camera. With the camera, players can shift the POV to either third-person or first-person.

Prepare to be horrified.

As you can see from the video, the third-person POV isn’t stellar, but the first-person view is just, for the lack of a better word, brutal. Brutality aside, you can’t deny it’s pretty cool to see Scorpion’s trademark chain harpoon literally come out of his hand to bring the opponent closer. It’s an insane way to see how this must look to the fighters. I also particularly enjoyed seeing the crowd cheering from below the stage. I always knew there was a crowd there, but this the first time — that I’ve seen — where the crowd is so visible.

Is this an ideal way to play the game to practice your combos? Probably not. The first-person and even third-person views skew the player’s perceptions as to where they need to be to execute a particular move or combo. Not to mention, the acrobatics can be rather dizzying, especially for those who are more perceptible to motion sickness in the first place. In addition, the X-ray cutscenes are still in the side-view, which is a bit jarring to snap back and forth between the different points of view.

Ermaccer’s mod is available for everyone who wants to get up close and personal with the violence of Mortal Kombat 11. You can find the mod to download on Github.
