Hip-hop artists Lil Yachty, Yung Bans, & Ski Mask The Slump God have teamed up with producer Murda Beatz for a new track titled “Fortnite.” After a few months of teasing by Murda Beatz, the track dropped on his SoundCloud page today. Furthermore, a video collaboration by Jake Osmun and Lordharis accompanies the song. Upon listening, fans of Fortnite will instantly recognize the primary sample, which is pulled directly from the game’s theme song. Murda added further flavor with his signature rumbling 808 bass hits and quick hi-hat trills.

This is actually the second time these celebrities have endorsed the game, as both Lil Yachty and Murda Beatz participated in the first Pro Am 2018 tournament last month. Unsurprisingly, their musical performance fares slightly better than their in-game skills.

Squad goals

Despite the enthusiasm shown by Lil Yachty at the Pro Am tournament, this latest effort feels like more of a cash grab than anything else. Running just under four minutes, fans can hear Yung Bans recite the hook, with the other rappers trading verses. Frankly, the decision to rip the theme song wholesale from the game comes across as lazy on the part of Murda Beatz. Not only that, but Murda used the newer theme song. If they truly wanted street cred, they should have gone for the oft-requested, original ambient rendition. Furthermore, the accompanying video lacks the production value of player-made content, like the “Finesse” music video created earlier this week. At least we’ve been graced with lyrics such as, “I’m in-I’m in Tilted Towers (ooh, Tilted Towers) (yeah, shout-out my, huh, ooh) / Look like Austin Powers (huh).”

Regardless, this is now a thing that exists. Murda, known for his production of Drake mega-hit “Nice for What,” is now churning out Fortnite fanfiction. Listen to the track and let us know what you think.
