Magic: The Gathering × Fortnite collaboration preorders start today

The Battle Bus is now a Magic card

Today, Wizards of the Coast opened preorders for the newest set in their Secret Lair Drop Series: a collaboration with Fortnite. The new set sees Fortnite come to the popular card game. There are several cards to grab and add to your Magic: The Gathering collection.

Secret Lair

Magic: The Gathering often has special card sets called Secret Lair. These Secret Lair drops are typically aimed at collectors, and often have a special aspect to them. For example, the Street Fighter crossover came as a Secret Lair drop. This special Fortnite drop sees many beloved Fortnite characters and landmarks transformed into cards.

There are two mini sets to collect; the first is the general set, with Fortnite-themed reskins of already existing Magic: The Gathering cards. For example, Triumph of the Hoards has been turned into Battle Royale. The new Battle Royale card features the one of the original Fortnite characters carrying a rocket launcher. There are seven cards in this mini set.

The second mini set is a Landmarks and Locations set, featuring five full-art land cards with art from iconic Fortnite locations. For example, one of the Basic Lands looks like Frenzy Farm. Another appears to be Shark Island. All of the cards in both mini-sets are available in foil and non-foil editions.

You can pre-order the cards for a limited time from the Wizards of the Coast website.

Fortnite

There is currently no official word from Epic Games on whether any Magic: The Gathering themed items will be landing in Fortnite. The artwork released by Wizards of the Coast and seen in the header suggest this could be a loading screen. If we are to see a Magic: The Gathering loading screen come to Fortnite, there is the possibility of other items landing along with the screen. However, Wizards of the Coast often release Secret Lair sets that are only one way collaborations. The last Street Fighter Secret Lair set didn’t see any Magic: The Gathering content in Street Fighter.

Players should keep an eye out for any Epic Games announcements, but shouldn’t hold their breath for Magic to come to Fortnite. If you’re a fan of either game, grab the Secret Lair set while it lasts.
