Overall Thoughts

In the last article, I was critical of most of the ratings given out to players. This article though, my mind has changed. I agree with pretty much all the cards, but some made me tilt my head.

The first being Lorenzo Insigne. No doubt he is an unbelievable talent who has the POTENTIAL to be a world class player. Notice the key word, potential? That’s still Insigne’s problem is that he still has the potential to be better than what he is. The reason I say that’s a problem is that he is now 26 (still very young) and he was supposed to be Italy’s next Totti or Del Piero. More often than not he plays great in the league but when his country calls upon him, it’s a different story. He’s developed over the last three years with Napoli, so an upgrade is deserved, but I don’t know if it should’ve been this high. For a player like him, a rating of 86 would be more than fair. He can still rise quickly to a 90 rating with an 86; just for me, 88 was a little too high.

The only other question mark I had was with Pogba, Busquets, and Bale. Now I know this is only a one-point upgrade for Pogba but given his performances for United weren’t the best last year, a downgrade would’ve been warranted. On the other hand, he was great for France at the World Cup, and they did win. For me, keeping him at his rating of 87 would have been fine, but I can understand a rating of 88. What I don’t understand is Busquets rated 88. He is often overlooked when it comes to great players in the game, and if this were two years, I would say 88 is perfect for him. But this isn’t two years ago, and while he still is performing at a high level, it’s not at the same level he’s used to playing at. 87 would also be the fair rating for him.

Now onto Gareth Bale. Now I have to be honest, this is is a head-scratcher for me. Do I think Bale is a great player? Yes. Do I agree with an 88 rating? I guess so. Last year he spent a lot of time sidelined with injuries, but he also put up incredible numbers when healthy. Also, remember THAT goal in the Champions League final? This one is tough because he is a great player, but we haven’t seen him at his best for some time. Again, I would’ve been okay with giving him an 87, but I guess given the performances, I can live with an 88.
