Overall thoughts

Considering we have now entered the top 20 players in FIFA 19, these ratings are good. I agree with most of them. These are world-class players, so the difference in scores from last year to this year won’t be that high. With that said, while I do agree with most of the ratings, some of them could be slightly adjusted.

FIFA 19 goalies

First and foremost, Manuel Neuer at a 90 is incredibly gracious. Yes, he is arguably the best goalie in the world, but last year was an awful year for him. Neuer spent the majority of the season out injured, and when he did return in the World Cup, it was clear he was not ready. I know he was rated 92 last year and this past year was very unlucky for him, but in my eyes, he should have gotten an 89. I guess I am a little too harsh considering he already was downgraded two ratings, and, as I said, he spent all year hurt. With all that said, while 89 would have been my ideal rating for Neuer, 90 isn’t that unrealistic. As for the other goalies, Courtois and Oblak: I have no problem with them receiving 90s. Both had solid seasons and have consistently performed at a high level for some years.

A case of the 90s

Now let’s move on to some more players ratings I think could have been altered, the first being Giorgio Chiellini. Honestly, he and Godín are the same. They are cut from the same cloth, so if one has a 90, then the other needs it too. I don’t think you could honestly say that last year, Godín had a better year than Chiellini. They both performed equally. If anything, Chiellini should get the nod considering the trophies he won last year. With that said, Godín did feature in this year’s World Cup and performed extremely well. As I said earlier, I feel that both these players should have the same rating; whether it’s an 89 or a 90, both would be fair for these players.

Additionally, I also feel that Harry Kane and Sergio Agüero could have been given 90s. I’m not too mad about them receiving 89s, but I consider these two in the top tier of strikers, and last year they both performed. Kane won the Golden Boot at the World Cup, while also adding 30 goals in the league. Agüero on the other hand scored 21 goals and lifted the Premier League title. Again, these are small margins, but in my opinion 90s would have been perfect ratings for them.

Last call

With regards to N’Golo Kanté and Lewandowski, I don’t have too much to say. Lewandowski had a somewhat disappointing World Cup, so a 90 is fair considering his rating last year. Kanté though? Man, has anyone else had such a quick rise to the top? Every year this guy keeps getting better and better, and he deserves all the accolades.
