The LA Thieves have continued their hot streak from Major IV in the biggest way at CDL Champs. After demolishing OpTic Texas yesterday, LA had a winner’s bracket finals lined up with Atlanta FaZe today. While FaZe was able to finally win a Tuscan Hardpoint, they were completely shut out the rest of the way. LA looks like a different monster in both Search and Destroy and Control, and they have a mountain of momentum heading into the grand finals of Champs.

After not making a top three appearance the entire season, LA has come alive and found their form in the last two events. This will be their second consecutive grand finals and they certainly appear to be the favorite to win Champs at this point. While they did lose map one on Tuscan Hardpoint, they looked incredible the rest of the series.

Kenny “Kenny” Williams had an MVP-like performance against Atlanta, finishing with a 1.31 KD, which was the only positive KD on the side of LA. For Atlanta, McArthur “Cellium” Jovel was marvelous yet again, finishing with an incredible 1.63 KD. However, the problem with that scoreline is that no one else on FaZe even got close to keeping up with Cellium. Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris had an admirable performance on Berlin Control, dropping 25 kills, but it wasn’t enough in the grand scheme of things.

Chris “Simp” Lehr and Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson had especially bad performances, both finishing with below 0.80 KDs in the series. If Atlanta wants a rematch with the LA Thieves in the grand finals, Arcitys and Simp may need to rethink their strategy.

As for LA, they don’t need to change a single thing. They’ve rolled through two of the best teams in the CDL in the past two matches with relative ease. Their Hardpoint is lethal, they look unstoppable in Control, and their Search and Destroy seems to be improving with every match. It’s tough to envision anyone beating the LA Thieves in their current form.

We’ll be recapping every CDL Champs match throughout the weekend on Upcomer, so stay tuned for more action.
