The emerald warrior Jade joins Mortal Kombat 11

With another Kombat Kast past us, we have another character announcement for the rapidly expanding cast of Mortal Kombat 11. This time we have fan favorite Jade, returning as an undead revenant. Check out the official tweet with reveal trailer below:

Jade’s official character description from NetherRealm is as follows:

Now resurrected by an evil sorcerer, she serves the Netherrealm as an undead Revenant. Death hasn’t slowed Jade down, though. She still thrashes her enemies with her bo staff, razorrang, and patronizing put-downs.

As seen in the trailer, Jade seems to have several anti-projectile options, which should make her great against characters like Sub-Zero and Sonya. Considering most NRS games tend to be projectile-happy spam fests in their early weeks online, it is nice to know that there will be a strong counter to that right out of the box. Jade’s signature staff also gives her great space control options that can lead into pretty damaging combos fairly easily, making her ideal for the slower, more footsie-oriented pace of Mortal Kombat 11.

From a story perspective, it will be very interesting to see where Jade’s loyalties lie, as she may be working for Dark Empress Kitana, the new Queen of NetherRealm, especially considering their close relationship in past games. In Mortal Kombat X, Kitana had several moves taken directly from Jade since she wasn’t in that game, what with her busy being dead and all, so it will be interesting to see if the inverse is true this time around too.

MK11 has a beta planned for March on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, just before the official release on Apr. 23. You can join the beta by preordering any version of the game. The next Kombat Kast doesn’t have a date yet, but you can bet that we will see more characters announced, and the subsequent teases of them leading up to the official broadcast.
