Is Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty an open world game?

A world with open elements

In the past few years, there has been an influx of open world games hitting the market. From the veteran Far Cry series to newer IPs such as Forspoken, Hogwarts Legacy, and Atomic Heart, open world games are all the rage in the modern era. As a result of this trend, any game that releases in today’s age could be an open world title. This leads players to ask this question whenever something new comes out. The freshest title on the market is Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and players are once again asking if it will be open world.

According to the developers at Team Ninja, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will not be an open world game. The new title will follow a linear progression, complete with different levels and areas that contain story missions and other content.

However, in those areas, players will be given the freedom to explore as they see fit. While the areas won’t be the size of an open world map, they will be large enough for players to spend some hours exploring and uncovering various secrets. Essentially, players have a non-open world game with open world elements included.

This also means that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will likely not succumb to some nasty habits that open world games have begun to feature. There will presumably not be a vast amount of side missions and other collectibles to find on the map. While there will still be some of that content available, it won’t be as overwhelming as some open world games have handled that type of content, such as Horizon Forbidden West.

To sum up, if you’re looking for a strictly open world game, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty might not be your cup of tea. However, if you don’t mind a non-open world game with elements of the genre included, then this new title could be exactly what you’re looking for.
