How to tame animals in Once Human

We can tame animals in Once Human now, which is pretty cool, especially if you get a cute little deer, like me. Personally, I’m more interested in wolves and bears though, for additional base defense during those purifications. Maybe the mobs will even stop destroying my water pumps if there are animals around to help out.

Anyway, here’s how to tame animals in Once Human.

Step 1: Unlock the Memetics and craft the tools

You can unlock animal taming in the Memetics screen, under Logistics in 04: Transcendence. Animal Capture and Animal Taming are the two you’ll need, and you’ll need 14 Meme points.

With that done, you’ll want to go to your Advanced Supplies Workbench and craft Tranquilizer Throwing Needles.

I crafted about 20 to capture the deer, and I have four left. So maybe make quite a few to bring along, especially if you’re going to capture a bear.

Step 2: Go hunting

Now comes the easy part… kind of. Simply pick your prey and attack it. You’ll notice there is now a notch on the health bar of animals that can be tamed. Damage your animal of choice until its health is below that notch, then start hitting it with the tranquilizers.

You’ll have to equip the tranquilizers on your hotbar for easy access.

Once the animal drops, you can simply pick it up into your inventory.

Step 3: Feed it

You can now also build a trough, which you’ll find in the building menu under Facilities > Function Facilities. Place some water and food inside, and you’re ready to care for your new friend.

Once you’ve put the animal down in your territory, you can walk up to it and hit F to see what its favorite foods are.

And that’s all you need to know. Occasionally, you’ll get drops from your animals — such as deer milk which is good for cooking — and your bears will help with base defense.
