How to register for the 2022 NHL Gaming World Championship

Season 5 of the esports tournament features North America and Europe

Registration for the 2022 NHL Gaming World Championship is now open to esports competitors. A prize pool of $100,000 is on the line.

Season 5 of the NHL Gaming World Championship involves the North American and European regions, meaning there are two separate tournaments. Interested participants can sign up via the Battlefy website.

Participants will first duke it out against each other on one of four consoles during the Console Finals, according to the email press release. The consoles include Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. For the championship rounds, gameplay will occur on the PlayStation 5. The early tournament rounds will happen remotely, but the NHL said there are plans being made to have the championship events in-person.

NHL Gaming World Championship Europe

The tournaments for the European region will feature the following phases:

  • European Qualifiers
  • Online Open Play (two weeks)
  • European Console Final
  • European Championship

The European Qualifiers will run from March 19-20 and March 26-27. There will be 128 players for each participating country.

  • March 26-27
    • Czech Republic/Slovakia
    • Sweden
    • United Kingdom/Ireland

Online Open Play Week 1 will run from March 30 and April 3. Week 2 will run from April 6-10.

European Console Final information

According to Battlefy, the top 26 players on each console from the first week and the top 32 competitors from the second week will head to the European Console Finals. The European Console Finals will run from April 23 to May 22.

The European 2022 NHL Gaming World Championship will occur on June 4 and feature the top eight players who advanced from the Console Finals.

NHL Gaming World Championship North America

The North American region will consist of the following phases:

  • Online Open Play (two weeks)
  • North American Console Final
  • Club Championship

Each of the four consoles will follow their respective tournament track, with the top two players from each Console Final heading to the Club Championship.

Online Open Play Week 1 will occur between March 16-20 and Week 2 will happen between March 23-27. Then, the North American Console Finals will run from April 9 to May 28. Competitors will duke it out until one player is crowned per console.

The top two players will advance to the Club Championship, which takes place on July 7. Fans and supporters can catch livestreams and tournament highlights on the NHL Twitch channel.
