To craft an armor stand in Minecraft, you’ll need to gather some materials. Here’s how the whole process works.

Gathering the Materials

Your first step is going to be gathering everything you need to make an armor stand in Minecraft, which requires six sticks (say that five times fast!) and one smooth stone slab. To make these items, you’ll need a minimum of:

  • 4 wood planks (any wood will do)
  • 3 cobblestone

If you don’t have a crafting table, you’ll need 8 wood. And if you don’t have a furnace yet, you’ll need 11 cobblestone.

To get these items, you’ll need to head out into the world and get some wood blocks. Find a tree and chop it down with an axe — or, if you’re feeling extra tough, use your bare fists. Make sure to get all the wood, no one likes floating trees. Use your inventory or a crafting bench to turn this wood into wood planks, and then into sticks, like this:

Next you’ll need some cobblestone and a furnace. To get cobblestone, simply harvest stone blocks with a pickaxe. If you don’t have a crafting table yet, you’ll have to make one. You can do this in your inventory by filling all the slots with wood planks (super easy, eh?)

To make a furnace, you’ll need to place eight cobblestone blocks in a crafting table and leave only the middle block open. Like this:

Next up, smelt some cobblestone in the furnace. You can do this with any wood or coal you have lying around. Better get some more if you need to! Your cobblestone will turn into stone. Now, smelt the stone again, and this time it will come out as smooth stone. Grab this smooth stone, and place three blocks in a horizontal line on your crafting bench, like this:

Now you’re finally ready to make that armor stand. Let’s get that done!

On a crafting bench, place one stick in each of the top blocks, place one stick in the middle, and one stick on the bottom left and bottom right corners. Place your smooth stone slab in the last open slot in the bottom row, and you have yourself an armor stand. It should look like this:
