You’ve chopped your trees, you’ve built a nice house, and your farm is running just fine. At this point, you may begin to wonder… what else does Minecraft have to offer? Why not build a brewing stand and make some potions?

What a great idea! Luckily, you’ve stumbled across this article, where I’ll show you step-by-step how to make a brewing stand in Minecraft. Heck, I’ll even show you how to make your first potion.

Enjoy!

How to make a Brewing Stand in Minecraft step-by-step

Step 1: Build your crafting table

If you’re as far as I think you are, you really should have a crafting table already, so skip to the next step if you do.

If you’re still reading, are you sure you want to be brewing potions already? I’m just kidding. Building a crafting table is easy, simply chop a tree and grab some wood.

Then turn that wood into planks by chucking it in your crafting space on the inventory screen, and then fill the crafting space with four planks. Voila, you have a crafting table.

Step 2: Get your hands on a Blaze Rod

If you’re one of the people who didn’t know how to build a crafting table, oh boy, are you going to have fun with this step! In order to make and use a brewing stand, you’ll need some blaze rods. You’ll only need one for the stand, but it runs off of blaze powder, so you’ll need a few rods spare in order to actually brew potions.

Where do you get Blaze Rods you ask? Why, from Blaze mobs, of course. In the Nether.

Yeah.

To get to the Nether, you’ll need to know how to build a portal in Minecraft first. Then you’ll have to find a Fortress, which you’ll be able to spot from a distance if you’re lucky, thanks to the iconic reddish brick that it’s build out of.

Kill a few blazes, collect the rods, and try to make it home alive.

Well done. Time for step 3!

Step 3: Mine some Stone

I hear you, a bit of a let-down after step two, huh? This one’s a lot easier. All you have to do is have a pickaxe (if you don’t know how to make one of those, how did you even get past step 2?), find some stone, and mine it.

You’ll need three cobble for this recipe. And then we reach the final step!

Step 4: Put it all together and craft your Brewing Stand

Now head over to your crafting table. Put your three cobblestone in the middle row, from side to side. Then put your blaze rod in the middle block on top of this row, and there it is! You have your brewing stand.

And that’s it. I said this was the final step and so it is. Unless… do you know how to use that thing? Here, let me show you.

Step 5: How to use your Brewing Stand

I’m going to show you one potion, then you can go ahead and figure out others on your own. Sound like fun? Then let’s do this.

Go back to the nether and collect some Nether Wart. Yay, the Nether…

This is what Nether Wart looks like, by the way.

You’ll also need to grab some sugar cane and make sugar. It’s really easy, you just put the sugarcane in any crafting space and take out the sugar. And, finally, you’ll need to make a glass bottle. Do you see a pattern here? We keep doing the harder thing first… wonder why that is?

Anyway, just put three glass in a crafting table in a bucket shape, like this:

Finally, take your bottles to water and fill them up. Just have them in your hand and right-click on the water. Now it’s time to brew your first potion.

Put a bottle into the stand, then add your blaze powder and nether wart. If you add three bottles, you’ll get three potions for the same ingredients cost!

Once the arrow fills up, you’ll have an awkward potion. Now put the sugar in, and it’ll change into a speed potion.

If you want your speed potion to last longer, add some Redstone dust to the stand and your speed potion will last for eight minutes instead of three.

And there you have it! Look at you, brewing master. You could be running the potions class at a certain castle I’m not sure I should mention.

But that’s all there is to making a brewing stand in Minecraft and even brewing your first potion. If you don’t know yet, here’s how to make an armor stand in Minecraft.

Until next time, enjoy the cool potion effects!
