How to increase your FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 on PC

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Besides being a marvel in the world of RPGs and video games, Cyberpunk 2077 has been praised for its spectacular graphics. The sprawling world of Night City is one to behold, and even on the lowest PC settings, the game still looks gorgeous. However, this usually means that the game requires a ton of power to run. In this case, you don’t need a supercomputer to play Cyberpunk, but you might need some relatively new hardware to activate Ray Tracing and still achieve a decent FPS. For those that just want a higher FPS though, there are a couple of ways to do so.

The recommended PC requirements for Cyberpunk might have players thinking they can run the game smoothly with older hardware. However, CD Projekt RED’s recommended requirements seem to be targeting around 30 FPS on medium to high settings. For most players, that’s simply too low.

If you’re in the 30 to 40 FPS crowd or looking for some ways to boost your frame rate, there are a few different methods to try. The first of these is to lower every setting to its minimal value. This mainly includes shadows and reflections that can be found in the Graphics menu. Turning all of these down will provide a huge FPS boost while not making the game look much worse.

Next, you’re going to want to turn off Ray Tracing and turn off DLSS. If your PC can manage above 60 FPS with Ray Tracing enabled, then by all means turn it on. However, RTX is a huge process and lowers your FPS by a huge amount. DLSS, on the other hand, actually boosts your FPS by around 60%. The best setting that players have found for DLSS is “Auto.”

The last step you can take is heading into the Nvidia Contol Panel. For AMD users, go into the Control Center. Once there, click on “Manage 3D Settings” and then “Add Program.” From here, add Cyberpunk 2077 and then scroll down the list of options until you see Texture Filtering. Click on this and set it to “Performance.” Also, set Power Management Mode to “Prefer maximum performance.” These settings will ensure that your game prioritizes FPS over image quality.
