If you’re in the habit of doing every Divine Tower in Elden Ring, you’ve most likely stumbled across the Carian Study Hall. This ground-level building is connected to the Divine Tower of Liurnia. For players that have entered the building, you have undoubtedly been greeted by one of the most annoying fights in Elden Ring, which is spear-headed by a mini-boss named Preceptor Miriam. This boss is very difficult to defeat and you can’t get through Carian Study Hall without eliminating him.
For anyone that couldn’t defeat Miriam, fear not. There’s another way to complete the maze that is Carian Study Hall. You’ll still have to get past the Preceptor but, with one item, the fight becomes much easier. Keep reading below for all of the details.
Getting through Carian Study Hall in Elden Ring
First, you should complete most of Ranni the Witch’s questline in Elden Ring. Ranni has you go on a long quest that involves multiple locations, bosses and key items. To make Carian Study Hall easier, you must first complete the quest in Nokron, the Eternal City and defeat Starscourge Radahn.
Once you’re in Nokron, keep progressing until you find the Finger Slayer Blade. This is found near the giant statue of a skeleton on a throne below the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace in Nokron. You can get down below to the statue by hopping on roofs and making your way along the ledges until you reach the ground. The Mimic Tear Ashes can also be found near here.
After looting the Finger Slayer Blade, return to Ranni at Renna’s Rise in northeast Liurnia. Give her the blade and she will gift you the Inverted Statue. Go back to Carian Study Hall and place the statue on the pedestal in front of the globe on the desk. This will flip the study hall upside down.
Head through the new door and make your way out to the big circle. This is where you’ll be greeted by Preceptor Miriam again. However, this time around, you can easily avoid his attacks and deal damage to him at range. This will require you to use a bow, staff or Incantations.
Once he’s defeated, make your way to the right and jump onto the large circular object where Miriam was. Exit the circle down and to the right and keep going along the edges. Make your way to the other side of the room, where you’ll eventually find another room with beams running across the lower area. Drop down onto the beams and make your way to the center of the room with the lift. Use the lift and you’ll come out to the bridge that connects the study hall to the Divine Tower of Liurnia.
