The power of sorcery is undeniable in Elden Ring. Whether you’re casting spells with a staff or using a seal to produce Incantations, you can deal a huge chunk of damage with just one spell. With this potential power just waiting to be harnessed, players will look all across the Lands Between for a new spell. The next one that Elden Ring players should try to discover is called Greatblade Phalanx.

Greatblade Phalanx is a spell that requires Intelligence to use (29 to be exact). You need a staff to be able to cast it, along with35 FP, and the spell takes up one Memory Slot. It can be quite the defensive spell to cast, as it produces three greatblades that hover around the player until an enemy gets close. When that happens, the greatblades go straight into that enemy, dealing solid damage and stunning them for a brief second.

If you want to find out how to add Greatblade Phalanx to your Elden Ring spellbook, keep reading below.

The Greatblade Phalanx spell’s location in Elden Ring

To loot this spell, you will need to make your way into Liurnia of the Lakes. Once in the region, you want to go on the western isle, following the main road into the western section of the lake. You can go the eastern route but it takes much longer to get to your location.

The exact location you’re heading is the Cuckoo’s Evergaol. This is found south of the Four Belfries and north of the Minor Erdtree on the western side of Liurnia. If you have the Four Belfries Site of Grace unlocked, just fast travel there and head directly south. Otherwise, just go along the western side of the lake until you’re directly on the left side of the Academy. Then, head up to the land and you should see the Evergaol. At the Evergaol, you will need to fight and defeat the Bols, Carian Knight boss.

Bols is a huge magical enemy that can deal some tremendous damage if you let them hit you. However, like with all large enemies in Elden Ring, you want to stay as close to the boss’ feet as possible. This eliminates most of the opportunities for Bols to attack you. If they move back to try and deal damage, just keep sticking to their legs and attack when possible.

Once Bols, Carian Knight is defeated, you will acquire the Greatblade Phalanx spell, which the boss will use throughout your fight. For more helpful content, check out Upcomer’s comprehensive Elden Ring guide hub.
