Finding Somber Smithing Stones in Elden Ring has proven to be one of the trickiest quests for players. The stones are essential in order to progress in Elden Ring but, at times, they are seemingly impossible to find. We’ve previously gone over where to find Somber Smithing Stones (3), (6) and (9) but today it’s time to locate the Somber Smithing Stone (7).
This version of the Somber Smithing Stone is perhaps one of the most annoying to find. It actually can’t be found in the overworld of Elden Ring until much later in the main story. However, if you want to venture into the underground, you can find at least three of them.
In order for you to acquire the Somber Smithing Stone (7), you need to reach Nokstella, the Eternal City. This city comes after you’ve fully explored Nokron, the Eternal City and returned to Ranni in her chamber at Renna’s Rise. After you’ve completed Nokron and given Ranni the Finger Slayer Blade, a portal will open at her chamber in Renna’s Rise. Take the portal and you’ll be transported to Nokstella.
Once there, you want to keep moving until you reach this location of the Somber Smithing Stone (7), as shown on the map above. Here, up on a ridge overlooking the large statue of a skeleton on a throne, there will be a corpse. Loot the corpse and you’ll have the stone you desire.
If you keep progressing through Nokstella, you can eventually reach the Lake of Rot. This location is found by taking the small river to the south of Nokstella. Once at the Lake of Rot, you can loot two Somber Smithing Stone (7)’s. They are lying on corpses on opposite sides of the lake. You can see where the first is located below. The second is located directly east of this stone at the other end of the lake. However, that one is located on top of the ruins, which you need to make surface by stepping on different platforms.
There are other Somber Smithing Stone (7)’s later in Elden Ring, but these three should get you started with some of the early special weapons in the game.
