With its signature ability to transform into other Pokémon, Ditto can be a tricky monster to hunt down in some Pokémon games. For example, Ditto will never appear as themselves in the overworld in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, instead disguising themselves as other Pokémon that can appear in the area until you run into them and start a battle.
This Pokémon can be even harder to find in Pokémon GO, where Pokémon do not have set areas where they appear as in the main series games. Fortunately, trainers can improve their odds of finding the iconic pink blob during a special event.
Here’s what to know about how to find and catch Ditto in Pokémon GO.
How to find Ditto in Pokémon GO
Ditto will appear more frequently in Pokémon GO during an event that revolves around the Mythical Pokémon Meltan. While players can try to get a Meltan from a Mystery Box by transferring Pokémon from GO to other titles, Ditto may pop up in the wild in the meantime.
In true Ditto fashion, trainers won’t actually know they are fighting a Ditto when they first interact with it. Instead, it will take on the appearance of one of the following Pokémon:
- Diglett
- Grimer
- Snubbull
- Corphish
- Starly
- Roggenrola
- Tympole
- Litleo
All of these Pokémon will become more common over the course of this event, which lasts from 10 a.m. on March 21 to 8 p.m. on March 29 in the player’s time zone. As a result, catching these Pokémon every time you encounter them will increase your odds of coming across a Ditto.
Pansage, Pansear, Panpour, Trubbish, Galarian Stunfisk, and Goomy will also see an increase in encounter rates during this event. This means that trainers should be able to add a number of new creatures to their collections as they hunt for Ditto. Since Ditto has no evolution, trainers can also use any Ditto Candies they collect to power up a Ditto without saving any up for the purpose of evolving one.
How to catch Ditto
Catching Ditto is no different from catching any other monster in Pokémon GO.
In fact, you will not even know you have encountered a Ditto until after you have caught the monster it is imitating. That said, Ditto can be more difficult to catch than the Pokémon it transforms into, meaning you’ll want to take advantage of every technique you can to improve your odds of a successful capture.
The best way to up your chances of catching any Pokémon is to perform an excellent throw by hitting it with a Poké Ball right as the shrinking circle in front of it is at its smallest. Spinning the ball around before throwing it allows you to perform a Curveball, which also makes Pokémon easier to catch.
Finally, using a Razz Berry or Golden Razz Berry will lower the odds that the wild Pokémon will break out of its Poké Ball. By employing these techniques, you will make it more likely that you will catch any Ditto you come across, even if it is after the aforementioned event.
