Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 is chock-full of new content. Epic Games decided to go all out for the alien invasion-themed installment. Several new items were added to the game, including the Cosmic Chest — which is unlike anything the game has seen before.
Cosmic Chests are spawned in set points on the map and need an entire team to open. However, the actual practice of finding and opening them isn’t simple. It requires true teamwork and the reward is much greater than finding a regular chest.
Finding and opening Cosmic Chests in Fortnite
As of the time of writing, there are six known locations of Cosmic Chests. In no particular order, they are located in:
- Northeast of Pleasant Park
- Southwest of Steamy Stacks
- Northwest of Dirty Docks
- The top of the purple crater in the center of the map
- Southeast of Misty Meadows
- Southeast of Retail Row, on the small snowy mountain
Once a Cosmic Chest is discovered, a message will appear to the player’s entire team, stating that a chest has been found. In order to open it, the whole team must be present. Once all members are surrounding the chest, each player takes turns hitting its weak points. Fortnite leaker @HYPEX demonstrates how to do this below.

If the chest is hit anywhere other than a weak point, the player will be shot back. It takes a fair amount of hits to break open the chest but, once it is opened, rare loot spills out. This includes legendary and epic weapons and items. There’s usually enough to go around the whole team, so players don’t have to worry about not receiving anything.
It’s unclear whether Epic Games will add any additional Cosmic Chests to the map. As of now, though, players in Fortnite Season 7 can enjoy trying to break open the chests that are present.
