How to avoid the sun and not overheat in Nightingale

Don't let the sun get in your way

Nightingale is an unforgiving survival game, chock-full of dangerous elements that seek to harm your character and halt your progress. One of the earliest elements you’ll come face to face with in Nightingale is the sun, which makes you overheat and start to lose health if you don’t protect yourself properly.

You’ll first encounter the dangers of the sun in the Desert Byway during the opening tutorial section of Nightingale. In the desert, the sun is absolutely unforgiving, causing you to immediately start overheating as soon as you’re exposed to its rays. In the guide below, I’ll tell you all of the ways to go about avoiding the sun in Nightingale so you can make sure you don’t overheat.

First off, the easiest way to get out of the sun in the very early part of the game is to simply get in the shade. However, it can’t be any shade; it needs to be shade that’s provided by an overarching object or structure. For example, if you get underneath a large tree, a makeshift shelter, or a rock formation, then you’ll be fully protected from the sun.

If you hop from shaded area to shaded area while you’re in the desert, you should be able to avoid overheating for the most part. Of course, that doesn’t help when you’re fully exposed to the elements while making a resource run or looking for a place to set up your base. In that case, you want to eventually craft an Umbrella.

You’re not able to craft an Umbrella until later on in Nightingale, but this is the best way to avoid all nature in the game. Whether it’s raining out or blistering hot due to the sun, if you use an Umbrella, you can easily avoid any element. The Umbrella also gives you the ability to glide from high places, making it an invaluable tool to have at your disposal in Nightingale.
