Next up in Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2021 spoilers, Hooded Blightfang is a terrifying card if you are one of the many “superfriends” players out there. It is a fun card to build around, potentially being the ace of your mono black aggro decks, even as a tech choice to help you deal with enemy Planeswalkers. Even without that, it gives you more than its mana in value by being a pseudo-lord (a creature that does something for its creature type/keyword) for deathtouch creatures.

Planewalkers, beware of Hooded Blightfang in Core Set 2021 spoilers

Hooded Blightfang

Hooded Blightfang is a rare 3-drop from Core Set 2021. It is a 1/4 snake creature with deathtouch that you can cast for 2 and black. With the current ban list including Oko, Thief of Crowns, the average power level of Planeswalkers isn’t what it used to be. However, they still tend to be a problem if you are not prepared for it. Hooded Blightfang just happens to be the answer that you can place in your deck and not feel as if you lost a valuable slot if your opponent does not play Planeswalkers.

Its main flaw is plain to see. Being a 1/4 3-drop is not always going to cut it. However, its floor is pretty high seeing as it will either take away a piece of removal from your opponent or be a threat to its non-flying attackers.

In eternal formats

It is difficult to place Hooded Blightfang in a Modern or Legacy deck, due to the nature of the format. However, it looks like it will be a fun addition to many Commander decks.

In limited we see this card staying in its pack for a while. It offers a great answer for Planeswalkers, but that is not as valuable in a limited environment where Planeswalkers are far rarer. The life drain effect will rarely come into play. The “deathtouch” keyword is something that you will not have in abundance very often.
