Modern Horizons leaks reveal Hall of Heliod’s Generosity land card

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Academy Ruins has always been a great utility land in artifact decks. Retrieving key artifacts your opponent destroyed, only to use them again and again, is devastating. Not to mention the Mindslaver lock that exists with it. Now Modern has an interesting counterpart to the key land: Hall of Heliod’s Generosity, a card that was leaked to reddit amidst Modern Horizons spoilers season.

Breakdown

Hall of Heliod’s Generosity is a colorless legendary land that comes in untapped. It taps for a colorless, but what makes this land good is its activated ability. For 2 mana, you get to put an enchantment in your graveyard back on top of your deck. Just like Academy Ruins, it lets you recycle key cards again and again so no draw is ever quite dead.

But where exactly does Hall of Heliod’s Generosity fit? For Modern, the Enduring Ideal deck is one that could use it to get back key enchantments. Imagine being able to set up the Phyrexian Unlife/Solemnity lock, and then continuously retrieving whatever card your opponent manages to blow up. It might also be of use in boggles, ensuring you draw an aura instead of a land.

However, I think the real place Hall shines is in Legacy. Getting back Standstill to refuel constantly is an absolutely brutal engine, and blue-white control decks are already in the colors for it. The deck can also use it to retrieve key sideboard enchantments if they get blown up, like Stony Silence or Back to Basics. There’s also a combo with Second Chance. If you’re under 5 life and have 6 lands, you get to take infinite turns. EDH players may also find a use for the card in their enchantment-themed decks. It might just be a staple land for any mono-white commander that runs an enchantment.

What do you think of the Hall of Heliod’s Generosity? Is the leak legit? Is it good enough for competitive formats, or is it just a new commander staple? Let us know down in the comments below! Then stayed tuned for more Magic: The Gathering Modern Horizons spoilers.
