Just a few more days before Cantha reopens its doors

The Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons release date has been revealed for Feb. 28, by Arenanet on Tuesday.

Nearly two years after its initial announcement, Guild Wars 2 fans can finally look forward to traveling to the Cantha continent, later this month, with End of Dragons. It is the third expansion of the MMORPG. The release date came just a month ahead of the launch, similar to the previous expansions, Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire.

Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons introduces a host of new features, such as a new two-player mount, fishing, sailable skiffs, new elite specializations and more.

Despite Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons’ release date being close after the reveal, fans have speculated it to be at the very tail end of the month. On Feb. 4, 11 and 18, livestreams are scheduled to preview some more of its new features.

The new features

Along with returning to the original Guild Wars’ eastern Asia-inspired continent of Cantha – which fans had requested since Guild Wars 2’s release in 2012 — End of Dragons also introduces features that had been requested in years prior, such as fishing.

The two-player mount lets friends team up and fight on top of their massive siege turtle, equipped with cannons and all. The mount is the first two-player mount in Guild Wars 2 and can be upgraded through the game’s mastery system.

Each profession (i.e. class) gets a new elite specialization as well, which adds a new equippable weapon to the profession’s arsenal. This can change up the playstyle, essentially turning them into a new profession. The new weapons are as follows:

Guardian: Offhand Sword
Revenant: Greatsword
Warrior: Offhand Pistol
Engineer: Mainhand Mace
Ranger: Hammer
Thief: Scepter
Elementalist: Hammer
Mesmer: Mainhand Dagger
Necromancer: Mainhand Pistol

Naturally, the story will continue in Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons when it releases, but the details are still mostly wrapped in mystery.

Players wanting to catch a more in-depth preview of new features can do so on the official Guild Wars 2 YouTube channel and tune in to the upcoming live streams for the next three Fridays.
