Ginger wins Smash Melee Singles at Rona Rumble: East Coast

Avery “Ginger” Wilson won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Rona Rumble: East Coast on May 2. He had a flawless run in pools, playing without dropping any games until top 8.

In the first round of pools, Ginger defeated Jake “Blandeezy” Blandina and Andrew “Chem” Khalili. He kept up his hot streak with a win over Dawud “Aklo” Rahman in Winners Quarters. Ginger established himself as the Rona Rumble: East Coast champion by overcoming the Malhotra brothers. He beat Rishi Malhotra in Winners Semis, and Arjun “lloD” Malhotra in both Winners Finals and Grands.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Ginger has been incredibly active in Super Smash Bros. Melee netplay tournaments. In particular, he has entered many tournaments in the Untitled series, hosted by Scott “SaveAsUntitled” Schroeder. Ginger boasts online wins over Michael Rollberg, Kalindi “KJH” Henderson, Jason “Gahtzu” Diehl, and Colin “Colbol” Green.

lloD cruised into 2nd place at Rona Rumble: East Coast, all while overcoming many difficult matchups as a Peach player. He reached top 8 by defeating Dylan “Dawson” Dougherty, Jacob “Jflex” Pinto, and Zain Naghmi’s Fox. Then in top 8, lloD defeated “bobby big ballz” twice, despite the difficulty of facing Falco online.

On his road to 3rd place at this online event, bobby big ballz scored a handful of impressive wins. He beat Jason “Just Jason” DiMicelli, Daniel “Zamu” Bernstein, and Kevin “Bones” Emm to reach top 8 on winners side. Afterward, bobby big ballz eliminated Edgard “n0ne” Sheleby and Rishi while only dropping sets to lloD.

In his very first set of Rona Rumble: East Coast, n0ne lost to Jacob “Bodybag” Leesh. However, he managed to make a deep losers run to 5th place. Along the way, he eliminated the likes of Miles “Soonsay” Foster and Jeffrey “Kuyashi” Luce.
