Fortnite update adds Raptors for players to hunt and tame

Fortnite’s newest season has introduced Raptors into the battle royale. Players can now find these two-legged dinosaurs roaming different parts of the map. They’ll attack on sight.

The addition of these dinosaurs is the latest in a number of changes that Season 6 has brought to the game. Other animals that have been added to the map include Chickens, Frogs, Wolves and Boars. They’ll follow you and fight alongside you if you tame them with meat. Both items can be used with the new crafting system that’s also been introduced with the new season.

Players can use animal bones to upgrade Makeshift weapons, a new category of guns that are meant to be upgraded by collecting resources. Other weapon types, including the standard Pump Shotgun and assault rifle, aren’t as easy to find in chests now. Also, players will need to upgrade them from Makeshift weapons by collecting car parts and crafting them. Animal bones turn Makeshift weapons into Primal weapons, which are better at close range. Conveniently, like other animals in the game, Raptors will drop meat and bones when killed.

Epic Games has been hinting at the addition of raptors for the last two weeks. Dinosaur eggs could be seen cracking over time in a few locations. Players expect to see other dinosaurs, like a T-Rex, added to the game to go alongside the location reminiscent of Jurassic Park, named location Stealthy Stronghold.

Raptors and other wild animals can also be found in Arena play, where Fortnite players grind for a variety of tournaments and cash cups. They haven’t proven to be a distraction to competition as of yet. However, that could change in the future. Since they can’t build, the best the animals can do is be a distraction.

This new addition to the battle royale comes alongside a number of other small changes. The Primal Shotgun, a gun that top players have been complaining about, has been nerfed. Other items, like the Makeshift Shotgun, have received small buffs. The Mythic Primal Shotgun still reigns supreme; here’s how to get it.
