Another Fortnite season, another jaw-dropping in-game event. The Unvaulting event has come and gone, and it shook up the game in more ways than one. The community chose to bring back the Drum Gun in a server-wide vote, which has already stirred up a huge controversy.
Along with the return of the Drum Gun, two iconic locations were demolished. The blacktop section of Retail Row is now just black with ash and lava. However, the neighborhood part remains untouched.
What is not untouched is almost all of Tilted Towers. The most recognized location in Fortnite was hit with four separate meteors, destroying nearly all of the buildings. That said, the construction site building remains standing.
If you missed the live event, here’s everything that went down in the Loot Lake Unvaulting:
The controversial vote
As the timer began to tick down to 0 above Loot Lake, a large number of players made their way to the vault. Immediately after the timer ran out, the vault opened its doors to the players and revealed six different pillars.
On the pillars were the images of each of the potentially-returning vaulted items. While a majority of the big Twitch and social media personalities wanted the Tactical SMG back, the community felt differently. Seconds into the voting process, it was clear which item was going to win.
The Drum Gun’s pillar quickly started to crack and fill up with votes. Even though a few players went for the plane or the Infinity Blade, it didn’t matter in the end. The highly controversial Drum Gun is now back in all modes of Fortnite.

For competitive fans of the game, you’ll be happy to hear that the Drum Gun won’t appear in the World Cup qualifiers this weekend. However, for the rest of the player base, the Tommy gun has returned for the foreseeable future.
Get those W keys primed and ready.
Two long-time Fortnite locations gone
Since the v8.40 update, it’s been rumored that both Retail Row and Tilted Towers would be destroyed. Data-miners found leaks and images of a lava-ridden Retail and Tilted, signaling the end for the two hot-drops.
Live event during World Cup Qualifiers? Sure.
✅ 2 of the biggest POI's in the game destroyed.
✅ Drum gun returns.
Hope anyone landing Retail or Tilted had a backup drop. Fortnite btw

As soon as the vault vote concluded, the volcano began to smoke wildly and erupt with lava. Out of this lava came several meteors, the first of which went directly for Retail Row. While the meteor didn’t destroy the entire location, all of the blacktop shops are now in rubble.
The next meteor went for the snow biome, hitting what used to be Greasy Grove. No one knows exactly what this means, but it could mean the return of the Durr Burger in Fortnite.
Finally, the last meteor separated into four smaller rocks, all of which decimated Tilted Towers. The destruction of Tilted comes to fruition at long last after facing threats for five seasons. While this doesn’t mean much for competitive, casual lobbies will be changed dramatically.
Though this event is now over, the launch of Season 9 has still yet to happen. Epic Games could very well switch up the game even more for the next theme.
