Oh boy, it seems Fortnite‘s popularity could be slipping. According to them, Fortnite‘s Twitch viewership dropped a staggering 30 percent after it hit a high period in July.

What happened?

In the summer, Fortnite viewers spent a total of 151 million hours watching, and that’s a number too big to ignore. In August it lost 20 million viewers, followed by another 25 million in September. I mean with summer over, people go back to work and school, so that could be one reason why numbers dropped that much. It could also be because of so many other releases happening since September. Other games may have divided their attention, and you need to keep yourself fresh to stay on top.

Fortnite, like its competitors such as Overwatch, Rocket League, etc., keep themselves fresh by constantly having in-game events, new content like new skins and weapons, etc. If you don’t do that, the game gets boring.

Twitch standing strong

Despite one major gaming company losing a huge number of its total viewers, the Twitch platform itself isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Twitch just reported they saw more than 2.5 billion hours of content watched on their platform in Q3 of this year alone! TwitchCon is also this weekend and is sure to have some interesting updates and things to come all weekend long.

Despite Fortnite losing some viewers, it still has a huge following, generates a lot of revenue, and has started the careers of many now popular players and streamers like Ninja and Dr. Lupo. It has also become a household name when it comes to Battle Royale-style games, and people know about it even if they don’t play it themselves. Fortnite should see a boost again come the holiday season when they release even more new content.
