Fortnite Summer Skirmish Series: All confirmed participants thus far

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Earlier today, Epic Games announced the next phase of their competitive plans for Fortnite. Now, a number of players and streamers are confirming their invitations to play. Dubbed the Fortnite Summer Skirmish Series, this 8-week event begins this weekend with a Duos tournament.

This is the first official tournament following Epic’s reveal of the Fortnite 2019 World Cup, and a total of $8,000,000 is available in prize money, with $250,000 up for grabs in this weekend’s competition. However, in their official blog post, Epic stated that this inaugural event is invite-only. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for members of the professional gaming community to chime in declaring their involvement.

Confirmed pairs for Summer Skirmish Duos

In the Tweet maelstrom following Epic’s announcement, a number of professional players and streamers announced their pairing for the event. Unsurprisingly, there is a lot of buzz surrounding this first tournament.

Confirmed pairs:

  • Jack “Courage” Dunlop and “BaldyKun” (OpTic Gaming)
  • “TypicalGamer” and “Thiefs” (YouTubers)
  • “KittyPlays” (Streamer) and “Tfue” (FaZe Clan)
  • “Chaps” and “72hrs” (Team Liquid)

Confirmed individuals for Summer Skirmish Duos

On the other hand, it appears not everyone is already paired. Though a lesser number, a few players say they still need a partner. It’s unclear whether Epic decided the partners or let the players choose. Despite this being a professional, high-stakes tournament, it appears some players will have an advantage over others. For example, two OpTic Gaming players are together. Regardless of how talented another individual player is, they inherently lack chemistry with a random partner.

Confirmed individuals:

  • “Valkyrae” (Twitch streamer)
  • “SypherK” (Luminosity Gaming)
  • “I_AM_WILDCAT” (YouTuber)
  • “NICKMERCS” (100 Thieves)
  • “NickEh30” (YouTuber)
  • “NoahJ456” (100 Thieves)

Who’s missing from the Duos tournament?

That being said, not everyone is invited to participate. A number of high-profile players are tweeting their lack of involvement with this upcoming tournament. Most notable is the absence of Tyler “Ninja” Blevins. Though active online since the announcement, the world’s most popular Fortnite streamer has yet to comment on his involvement. Aside from garnering attention while streaming, Ninja is notable for winning the first official Fortnite tournament, the Pro Am 2018.

However, both players and their fans shouldn’t worry. Epic claims the format for the Summer Skirmish Series changes on a weekly basis. Likely in the interest of balance, fan-favorites such as Ali “Myth” Kabbani should see action soon. In addition, this prevents players such as Ninja from dominating every possible event.

Missing or unknown players:

  • “BasicallyIDoWrk” (YouTuber)
  • “Cloak” (FaZe Clan)
  • “Myth” (Team SoloMid) – Involvement currently unclear
  • “Nadeshot” (100 Thieves)
  • “SirDimetrious” (100 Thieves)

The future of the Summer Skirmish Series

With Season 5 of the game launching tomorrow, Fortnite is growing rapidly. Players aren’t sure what to expect with the update, which Epic claims is their largest yet. Truthfully, this is the perfect weekend for the Summer Skrimish Series to begin. All players are on a new, even ground as they adjust to the in-game changes. The fresh content will add another layer of excitement to this weekend’s festivities. Hopefully, future weeks in the series are equally as exciting.

What additional players would you like to see? Is there a particular format that the tournament should include? And, more importantly, how will the introduction of Season 5 shake up players’ strategies? Keep checking this page for further announcements as this story develops.
