Fortnite’s Season 5 has so many awesome things to do

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

I have a confession to make: Fortnite isn’t my jam. Yes, that’s right! I said it! I love online multiplayer games, I really do, but for some reason, Fortnite just hasn’t jelled with me so far. But then one of our writers and resident Fortnite expert, Raphael Bastek, suggested that I dedicate more time in this battle royale juggernaut. That’s because Fortnite’s Season 5 is out now, and there are so many things to do and keep me preoccupied.

Raph is currently hiking in the Rocky Mountains for a couple of days, so I took a gander at the new additions to the game. Lo and behold, all these additions made my jaw drop. I’m so amazed that I honestly don’t even know where to start!

Season 5 skins galore!

I don’t know about you, but I love dressing up my characters in the games I play. If it’s Skyrim or Fallout, I’d probably be bedecked in glimmering, knightly armour, or like an edgy scavenger respectively. In World of Warcraft, I scoured old raids and dungeons just to get the perfect transmogrification set. For Destiny, I prayed to the RNG gods to get the coolest-looking armour pieces during events.

Fortnite’s Season 5 additions deliver spectacularly in this regard. The Battle Pass provides a dozen or so new skins for your characters. I am definitely gunning for the Kitsune Mask and the Ragnarok Skull Helmet. Those two just make me want to look at my character all day long and spam emotes for the hell of it! The former reminds me of Okami and Amaterasu. The latter reminds me of my days fighting The Lich King and the Undead Scourge. Good times!

Season 5 Sports!

Even though Fortnite is the biggest game in the world right now with a healthy competitive scene, its vast game world is also littered with a lot of side activities in the various nooks and crannies. You know what makes winning a hotly contested match better? Winding down with a few games of golf. Now, you can do that for Season 5 with the Fortnite’s golf mini-game! Alongside that, you can also play some basketball and volleyball.

It just adds to the flavour and enrichment of the game world. You’re competing against dozens of other people, and yet when you stop and smell the roses, you’ll realize there are other things you can do in addition to the sweaty competition. There is no doubt in my mind that we’ll eventually see scenes of hilarious sportsmanship. Say several players or teams are pitted against each other and are running and gunning around the map. They all converge at the golf course. The shooting stops, everyone starts dancing. Next thing you know, players are just putting in golf balls or getting a hole-in-one. Whoever goes above par or worse than the rest has to voluntarily eliminate themselves.

If these are not enough, small rifts have also been added in the game. These rifts act as portals that will teleport you sky-high and allow you to drop back down on a nearby location. There’s the exhilaration and thrill of the rush that factors into this new feature. For instance, if you’re being chased by the opposing team, you can slide inside the rift and escape to an area that’s further away. Then again, you could also drop down behind them while they spend a few seconds wondering where you went.

Fortnite’s Season 5 is going to get me hooked

When I booted up the game once more and read the updates, I truly did not know where to even begin due to the sheer number of things I could do. Beyond that, there are also the cosmetic items I would like to chase and invest my time (and money) in.

Even though I freely admit that Fortnite wasn’t my jam at first, and our resident expert is egging me on to dedicate more time, I know that these additions in Season 5 are going to be worth it. If these are enough to keep me hooked, then I can only guess that its millions of players worldwide are also unbelievably excited. Here’s to the continued success of the game throughout the season — oh, and Raphael, happy hiking! Get back soon because Fortnite’s Season 5 is waiting!
