Worlds Collide indeed! Fortnite patch v5.0 is bringing treasures from beyond with “Viking ships, desert outposts, and ancient statues” according to Epic’s official patch notes. Fortnite is also channeling its inner PUBG with its first true vehicle: the All-Terrain Karts. Gather your supplies, load up the kids (or your squad) in the ATK, and head to one of the game’s newest locations, Paradise Palms, for a scenic vacay. Maybe basketball or golfing is your thing? Combine it with another favorite, Fortnite, and you’re in for a great day.
While the in-game additions, weapons adjustments, skins, and new locales are exciting, there’s an interesting addition to the patch that I wanted to highlight for Nintendo Switch owners. Fans of Splatoon 2 will be familiar with the Nintendo Switch’s gyroscopic feature for aiming control. Now, those that prefer the motion assistance for targeting opponents can enjoy the same function on Fortnite. Personally, I’ve never had much luck with motion controls in highly competitive games like Fortnite. I’ll stick to the old-fashioned joystick. But, I do know that there is a particular audience for motion features and this will surely appeal to them.

Be sure to check our article from Jason Rodriguez for a full overview of the Season 5 content for the game. He explains in great detail why this is, perhaps, the greatest season of content for Fortnite yet. If you’d like to read the extensive patch notes that detail bug fixes, UI changes, animation and weapons adjustments, and more for v5.0 of Fortnite, you can find all the details here at Epic Games website. Like most, I can’t wait to get my hands on the new Season 5 content. Who knows, maybe I’ll even give the gyroscopic controls on my Switch a go.
