One of the biggest changes in Chapter 2 of Fortnite is the loot pool. At the end of Season 10, there was a plethora of different items and weapons available. Now, Epic Games has moved the game back toward simplicity.

Fortnite Chapter 2 feels similar to the game’s first few seasons. There are no mobility items, shields are scarce, and there are only a handful of weapons to choose from. These changes help both experienced and new players. As everyone works to learn the new map and items, it makes for much less clutter. Additionally, the decisions of what to carry in a loadout are easier. This sort of refresh is exactly what Fortnite needed.
Fortnite Chapter 2 loot pool
The loot pool has been simplified for Fortnite Chapter 2, but there are still options to choose from. Players can pick weapons that fit their playstyles, and not every weapon is for every player. An exciting new feature added in Chapter 2 is the ability to upgrade weapons. You can bring a weapon to an upgrade bench and increase its rarity in exchange for materials. The benches are found all over the map, and the cost varies by rarity.
AR vs. Burst
One choice is between the regular Assault Rifle (AR) or the Burst Assault Rifle (Burst). Each weapon has its own benefits and ranges in rarity from common to legendary. The AR shoots fully automatically, which provides players a greater ability to pressure opponents. On the other hand, the Burst shoots three rounds at a time. That’s great for damaging enemies, but less effective for destroying opponents’ buildings. Ultimately, the better weapon is simply up to the player’s preferences, and the benefits of each are situational.
Tactical vs. Pump
Another choice players must make lies between the Tactical Shotgun and the Pump Shotgun. In previous seasons, the Pump Shotgun reigned supreme. That is not the case in Fortnite Chapter 2. The Tactical Shotgun competes against and can even exceed the Pump Shotgun in certain categories.
Both shotguns range from common to legendary rarity. The common and uncommon Tactical Shotguns do more damage than their Pump Shotgun equivalents. The Tactical Shotgun also has a fire rate of 1.5 shots per second, compared to the Pump Shotgun’s 0.7. Meanwhile, the higher rarities of the Pump Shotgun, epic and legendary, can eliminate an opponent in a single shot. That is when the Pump Shotgun begins to overpower the Tactical Shotgun.
RPGs
Another change to the Fortnite Chapter 2 loot pool is the availability of RPGs. The weapon can now be found in uncommon to legendary rarities. This means many more RPGs. The number of rockets is still capped at 12 plus one already loaded. As the weapon rarity increases, it increases in damage – from 85 for uncommon to 130 for legendary – and decreases in reload times. It remains extremely effective against opponents’ buildings.
Tons of weapons enter the vault
In order to clean up the loot pool, Epic Games needed to vault a large number of weapons and items. Quite a few favorites have entered the vault, such as Jump Pads, Silenced SMGs, and Chug Jugs. Likely, some of these items will return to the game in time. And we’ll surely see more added to the game as Chapter 2 progresses.
The Fortnite Chapter 2 loot is simple for now. Epic Games has a history of adding new and exciting content on a regular basis, though, so we shouldn’t have to wait too long before a new item is introduced. Until then, drop in and enjoy the new map!
