Nike’s former Chief Digital Officer, Adam Sussman, has accepted a new role at Epic Games. Going forward, he will serve as the president of the Fortnite studio. After plenty of experience in executive positions throughout a multitude of companies, he is ready to take on this billion-dollar industry.
A history in gaming
Sussman worked for Nike for over five years, starting as the Head of Global Strategy and Development. In 2016, he moved up to take on the role of their Chief Digital Officer. He announced his departure from the apparel brand on his LinkedIn page, saying, “Nike is an amazing brand, I got a chance to work with many great people and I am so proud of what we accomplished together.”
While Nike is his most recent employer, Sussman had held numerous positions in the gaming industry before that. He began his gaming career with Take-Two Interactive, and afterward became Vice President of Global Publishing for EA Mobile. He has also held Senior Vice President positions with both Zynga and Disney Interactive Media Group. All this experience in the game industry will no doubt help him to propel Epic to new heights in the future.
Fortnite, Epic, and their new president
Shooter-survival game Fortnite has risen in popularity since its release in 2017, bringing in a revenue of $1.8 billion in 2019. It was the highest-earning game of 2019, and it used its popularity to boost its spot in pop culture through collaborations with Marvel, Star Wars, and Stranger Things.
Epic Games, founded in 1991, is a game development and software company. They originally developed Unreal Engine, an engine that powers their video games such as Fortnite, Gears of War, and the Infinity Blade series.
Sussman will move forward in his new role by moving to North Carolina with his wife, three kids, and two dogs. He hopes to change the future of Epic Games for the better.
