Fnatic and Misfits go 2-0 in Week Six of LEC Spring Split

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

After faltering early in the LEC Spring Split, Fnatic and Misfits Gaming have found a critical 2-0 weekend. This was a crucial weekend for both teams to find success in, as we approach the final weeks of the season. Fnatic would take down Team Vitality to lock in their 2-0, while Misfits would take down Origen today as well.

Fnatic was struggling pretty handily during the first few weeks of the LEC Spring Split. Many people were talking about the impact of Rasmus “Caps” Winther, and how he helped enable every other play on the roster. However, they have shown some good improvements in their team play through the past couple of weeks. Tim “Nemesis” LipovÅ¡ek has started to settle into his role as the team’s mid laner, while Martin “Rekkles” Larsson has found his mojo in the bottom lane.

Misfits Gaming have been having some rough games in the past couple of weekends. After a strong start to the season, they began to slow down as a team. The main carry of their team, Steven “Hans Sama” Liv, has been getting shut down early and their other lanes weren’t doing so well either. Without a strong early game to get Hans Sama ahead, it looked like Misfits did not have enough firepower to hold themselves up in the late game.

Fnatic gets their first 2-0 weekend

Fnatic had a great showing this weekend, facing off against some tough opposition in Origen and Team Vitality. They had some really strong play in the early game in both matches, which bodes well for later in this season. Their match against Vitality was one of the most exciting of the season, as it became so back-and-forth in the final moments of the game. In fact, Fnatic could have won this game much earlier, except that they would slow the game down and allow Vitality to claw back. There would even be an impromptu Elder Dragon steal from one of the most unlikely sources:

Fortunately for Fnatic fans, they would be able to seal the victory after a couple misplays by Team Vitality. The boys in orange are looking really put together now, as each player settles into their roles. Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen is rotating really well, and his ganks are well-timed and smart. Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau is no longer overextending in his lane and is playing smarter compared to the beginning of the Spring Split. Finally, Nemesis is getting plenty of resources to give him chances to succeed. With only three more weeks in the season, every match will matter.

Misfits Gaming bounces back with a 2-0 in Week Six

Meanwhile, Misfits Gaming was able to secure themselves a 2-0 weekend. It was a much-needed 2-0 weekend after suffering some pretty disappointing performances the weeks before. Although there is plenty of room for improvement, you can see Misfits slowly transforming into the team they were expected to be. They finally focused on their star ADC in their final match against Origen, as Hans Sama would become an unkillable machine late in the game. Combine that with shields from Kai’sa ultimate, Ivern, and Orianna, and he is free to hit anyone he wants and not take any damage.

On the other hand, Origen did not play well in this game, or on this weekend at all. After taking down G2 Esports last week, there was an immense amount of hype surrounding the team. However, after lackluster performances from the entire team, they’ve shown that they still have a lot to work on. We will need to wait and see if Misfits Gaming can bounce back up the standings after dropping down to fifth place after their four-game losing streak.

Final Thoughts

These next games are some of the most important games of the Spring Split for both these teams. For Fnatic, they can only lose around two more games, else they risk the chance of missing out on playoffs. Note that Fnatic has never missed playoffs in Europe since season one, so if they do fail to qualify, it will be a historical season. Misfits Gaming still have some building to do, as they did stumble a lot during both their games. Their focus has to be around their powerful bottom lane, as they are clearly the win condition for this team with their other lanes struggling.
