Individuals from all walks of life can get involved in the Steps for Life 5K event. One could participate by volunteering, becoming a donor, supporting the mission financially, or even bringing the esports community together to help with raising funds.

Gift of Life’s Steps for Life 5K event is scheduled to have its check-in at 7:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 19. The opening ceremony will begin at 8:00 a.m., while the Superhero Sprint held for children will start at 8:30 a.m. Shortly after the sprint, the official race will be in session at 8:45 a.m.

Adding to the excitement, a bone marrow recipient will get to meet their donor for the first time. Usually, after a transplant, both the recipient and donor remain anonymous to each other. Along with facilitating this moment, the Steps for Life 5K will have an awards ceremony to congratulate the top runners.

Gift of Life

Steps for Life 5K events are not the only times where recipients and donors get to meet each other. In November 2019, Gift of Life worked with the Florida Panthers and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center to introduce recipient Joel Wolpe to donor Zak Blumer. In the same month, four-year-old Nicolas Baluarte and his parents met up with donor Micah Kadden, who is a pediatrician from Washington.

Florida Mayhem fans and Gift of Life supporters who cannot make it to the event can still donate through the latter organization’s website. Viewers can also catch up with all the action through the event’s livestream, which will be happening over on Facebook.
