Fast Gunner LMG Build for maximum Crit damage in Once Human (70k DPS)

If you want a BIG gun with BIG damage, you're in the right place ;-)

Fast Gunner is a heavily underrated build Once Human, and it has the potential to do massive damage and absolutely melt bosses and foes alike. It just so happens to be excellent at defeating the Forsaken Giant solo as well.

Recommended Videos

This build starts off slow, but peaks at around 70k damage per second (DPS) and does 1.3 million damage in just two mags — and it’s not even done yet!

I also have a weakspot Fast Gunner build guide here, but I think this one might just be better. Give both a try and let us know what you think!

Table of contents

Here’s a quick index in case you’re looking for something specific:

How the Fast Gunner Crit build works

Yes, this is another build that uses Bullseye as a secondary. If you’re looking for the ultimate run-and-gun build, here’s a Power Surge build guide that’ll have you shredding LEA like it’s easy mode. I’d also use the Power Surge build or Unstable Bomber for PvP — Fast Gunner is not great for PvP.

This Fast Gunner build is, however, great at taking down bosses that have heaps of health, since the longer you shoot at something, the quicker its HP drops.

As with other builds, your first move is to fire your support weapon and get your target marked. Next, use your fortress warfare axe to trigger that (I don’t bother with this) and then call your deviation as you switch to your main.

Then melt your target at 60-70k dps and smile as you top the damage charts in the Forsaken Giant fight, even against the popular Unstable Bomber builds. As you attack, your damage keeps increasing over time, so focus on your single target at watch the HP speed-run to zero.

Primary Weapon and calibration

There’s only one Fast Gunner main weapon I trust, and that’s the MG4 Predator LMG.

This weapon has great mag capacity, fire rate, and weapon damage. Slap a Heavy calibration with double crit rate on it, and you’ve got a boss destroyer. I haven’t been able to find a Heavy LMG calibration with double crit yet, so I’m using an Assualt calibration with double weakspot DMG – far from ideal, and I still manage close to 70k DPS.

Best Weapon Mod for the Fast Gunner build

There are three viable mods on this build, namely Shooting Blitz, Precision Rush, or Shoot Out. Cowboy simply doesn’t work here.

I’m using Shoot Out, since I have one with extra Crit DMG. You’ll want to prioritize Crit DMG, Weapon DMG, and DMG to Great Ones as sub stats for this build. If you find good mods that increase Fast Gunner damage, those are also great. Lastly, Magazine Capacity is also viable.

I wouldn’t recommend Precision Rush for this build, since it can be difficult to keep hitting weakspots, however if you find one with great sub stats, use it. Shooting Blitz is also good, since it extends the duration of Fast Gunner for four seconds, but only get you plus 15 percent damage.

The Shoot Out mod can get you up to 30 percent damage! So I do recommend Shoot Out above all, but sub stats are critical for this build, so go with those until you find that perfect mod.

Best Weapon Accessories

Accessories are always opinion-based, and mixing and matching according to your play style is the way to go. In case you want a baseline to start from, here are the accessories I use on this build (and I quite like them!).

Secondary Weapons for the Fast Gunner Build

You can choose from any of the weapons that apply Bullseye to the target. The best is, of course, the AWS .338 Bingo sniper rifle, but you can also use the Recurve Crossbow. I wouldn’t recommend using the DE.50 Wildfire for this build, since you’ll mostly be going after large single-target enemies.

You’ll also want to use the Vulnerability Amplifier mod on your secondary weapon. Sub stats don’t matter at all, since you’re only after the effect of the mod, anyway.

For your Melee weapon, a great choice is the Long Axe. Before you melt your target, you can perform a heavy attack with the Long Axe to give yourself an extra 20 percent weapon damage for five seconds. Personally I’ve never felt like this is really worth it, so I just use a Stun Baton.

Another great choice would be the Frozen Northern Pike. Using the Frosty Blessing mod on this melee option can give you a healing option, since you can trigger Frost Vortex with it. When this Frost Vortex disappears, you regain ten percent of your health.

Best Armor Set for Fast Gunner

There’s only one real option for me, and that’s Lone Wolf. You’ll want to equip yourself with four pieces of the Lone Wolf set, one piece of Bastille, and the Oasis Mask for your key armor. This gives you plenty of Crit DMG and chance, plus some extra weapon damage as well.

I’ve seen other build that rely on a three-piece Bastille set, but that requires you to crouch down for the maximum effect. Not exactly practical when you’re being swarmed by enemies or getting struck by lightning (I’m looking at you, Treant).

Prioritize Crit DMG, Weapon DMG, and DMG to Great Ones with all your sub stats.

Here’s how I’ve set up my gear and the mods I’m using on each piece.

TypeArmorMod
HelmetLonewolf HatMomentum Up
MaskOasis MaskBlitzkrieg
TopLonewolf JacketCrit DMG Enhancement (blue)
PantsLonewolf PantsDeadshot
GlovesBastille GlovesCrit Amplifier
ShoesLonewolf ShoesSlow and Steady / Covered Advance

You can mix and match these according to what you have, the most important thing is that you have four pieces of Lone Wolf and one piece of Bastille along with the Oasis Mask.

Where to find all the Fast Gunner Mods

Here’s a full list of all the mods required for this build and where to find them. All dungeons must be completed on at least Hard mode, and a controller must be used to obtain the mods. Pro mode often gives better sub stats, so go for that if you can.

Mod NameWhere it’s found

All mods can also be found in the LEA Labs dungeon, and all the weapon mods can be found in the Forsaken Giant boss fight.

Best Cradle Overrides for Fast Gunner

Fast Gunner doesn’t have great Cradle Overrides, sadly. But you can still deal tons of damage while prioritizing things like speed and teamwork in your cradle. Here are my picks for the Cradle:

  • Automatic Weapon Enhancement
  • Deviation Expert
  • Sprint
  • Tactical Combo
  • Sky Operation or Long Range Enhancement
  • Side by Side or Lone Walker (depending on whether you’re playing in a team or not)
  • Steady Hand
  • Bounty Hunter

Best food items for Fast Gunner

Fast Gunners are spoiled for choice when it comes to food, with plenty of options to choose from. For your drink, I’d go with either Wheat Beer or Corn Ale to prevent sanity drop. For food, you can choose from Crumbly Bread, Stargazy Pie, Assorted Canned Fruit, or Bone-In Deviated Sausage.

I’d stick with one of the first two, but having some Assorted Canned fruit on you at all times can be a good idea.

Here’s what each one does and how long they last.

FoodEffectSpoil TimeWhen to use
Stargazy Pie+25% Crit DMG24 HoursWhen you mean business!
Crumbly Bread+25% Weapon DMG24 HoursFor general play
Assorted Canned Fruit+25% Weakspot DMGNeverFor general play
Bone-in Deviated Sausage+ 15% DMG to bosses24 HoursWhen facing bosses

The Stargazy Pie gives you the biggest damage boost, since your Crit DMG is your biggest number here, but it’s expensive to make and doesn’t last long, so there’s nothing wrong with sticking to canned fruit until things get serious.

Which Deviation to use for Fast Gunner

The best Deviation by far is the Lonewolf’s Whisper. I have a level four Lonewolf’s Whisper, and it adds 37.8 percent Weapon Damage when attacking the target. That’s a lot of extra damage. You can find the Lonewolf’s Whisper at the end of the Shadow Hound boss fight.

To ensure you get the most out of this Deviation, make sure to place it near your fridge, place a red light above it, and attach it to your power grid.

Fast Gunner damage tests

The following test was conducted without any food buffs, and only using the Recurve Crossbow and the Deviation. I consistently peaked at over 70k DPS, which could further be improved by buffing with the Stargazy Pie (90-100k DPS).

Here’s the thing, however. Sustained Damage is more important in boss fights, and this build comfortably sustains 55k DPS over more than one magazine. I consistently dealt 1.2 – 1.3 million damage with two magazines. That’s quite a lot.

Finally, when you’re just running and don’t have time to mark targets and call your deviation, the build still peaks at a very respectable 45k DPS.

You’ll also be able to deal sustained damage with no buffs of around 35k DPS, dealing 700k damage in two magazines consistently.

Overall, I love this build. It’s not super useful when it comes to the new Void / Regen servers, but it’s the best at tackling the Forsaken Giant. I managed to solo him quite easily, and having a second person to help me in a duo made it almost too easy.
