Blizzard announced Dragonflight, the newest World of Warcraft expansion, on Tuesday. Dragonflight will introduce new zones, the Dracthyr race, the Evoker class, the Dragon riding skill, system updates, talent updates and a profession revamp.

World of Warcraft Dragonflight zones

In World of Warcraft Dragonflight, players will get to explore four new zones like the Waking Shores, Ohn’ahran Plains, Azure Span and Thaldraszus.

The Waking Shores will be the first of four leveling zones for players, containing protodragons and elements. Both Horde and Alliance will engage in an expedition with The Reliquary and The Explorers’ League to learn more about this zone.

It’s also here players will find out more about Alexstrasza’s red dragonflight. This group of dragons focuses on nurturing life, which also means they must find ways to preserve the life of their enemies, the magma powered half-giant Djaradin.

Waking Shores is the ancestral home of the black dragonflight as well, and Wrathion will join up with players while coming to terms with what happened to the dragonflight post-Deathwing’s descent.

Next, the Ohn’ahran Plains will feature an area named after Ohn’ahra, the god of wind. This new zone will feature centaurs and the green dragonflight, who battled for dominance before making peace with each other. While the centaur will be in the plains area, the green dragonflight will have homes in the groves.

To cross the plains, players will have to learn about the centaur’s rules and traditions. According to Blizzard, World of Warcraft players will first help the centaurs against some protodragons.

The Azure Span, meanwhile, will be one of the biggest zones to date and feature visual elevation zone changes. Progressing through this zone will allow players to encounter a gold and red tundra area before heading to the next elevation level for some snow. The majority of the Azure Span zone will feature snow, frozen waterfalls, ice rivers and more, according to the announcement.

This zone’s forests also house gnolls and tuskarr. The tuskarr will be aided alongside the blue dragonflight, and Kalecgos will go into Sindragosa’s archives.

Moreover, Thaldraszus will feature intact buildings, lofty mountains, cave systems, small dragon hoards and the bronze dragonflight. The main city hub of World of Warcraft Dragonflight will also be Valdrakken city. It will include auction house access, the blue dragonflight’s public library and gardens belonging to the red and green dragonflights.

Players who venture into this World of Warcraft Dragonflight zone will also find Tyrhold, which was built by the Titan keeper, Tyr. He helped the different Aspects duke it out against Galakrond in the past.

New Dracthyr Evoker race and class

The World of Warcraft Dragonflight expansion will have Dracthyr and Evoker as a new race and class, respectively. This will let World of Warcraft fans play as a dragon beginning at level 58. Dracthyr will also have their own starting zone, and players will get to select either Alliance or Horde during the character creation process.

According to Blizzard, Dracthyr Evokers were made by Neltharion, who wanted them to have the power of all five dragonflights. This means players will experience different spell casting styles. Evokers will also have two specializations: Devastation and Preservation. While Devastation will focus on DPS, Preservation will be about healing.

Additionally, Empower will be a new type of spell, allowing World of Warcraft a player to hold down a button on their keyboard to charge up a spell for more damage or more target hits.

Dragonriding in World of Warcraft Dragonflight

Players will get to learn the Dragonriding skill in order to explore the Dragon Isles. Unlike flying, players can hone the Dragonriding ability, defy gravity and use momentum to soar across the sky.

Customization for new drake mounts will be available as well. The options include the horns, tails, armor, snout and more.

System and talent updates

To make things more modern while maintaining the charm of the UI, World of Warcraft Dragonflight will also allow for more UI customizations. Players will see updates to the mini map, a bigger health bar in terms of appearance and less clutter.

Players will also get to move HUD elements around plus save, edit and copy components. As of now, this is a work in progress, according to Blizzard.

Meanwhile, the talent system will provide players with more options. There will be two talent trees, with one of them focusing on class utility. The other tree will be about specialization and player roles.

“When you look at the new tree, you’ll notice the class side will have some abilities filled out for free to get you started off in the spec you’ve chosen, but then you’ll have your first point to spend in the class tree which could be something related to that spec or it could be something from elsewhere in the class,” Blizzard explained in a blog. “We wanted to make sure that the new system allows players to take combinations of spells and abilities that may not have been possible in the game before.”

Professions in World of Warcraft Dragonflight

Professions will also be part of each player’s identity a bit more in World of Warcraft Dragonflight after a revamp. Crafting Orders, for example, will allow a player to request for another player to create something for them.

This will aid the player who may not have the skill or profession to craft a particular item. After selecting a recipe and including some or all the materials, a player can find someone else to craft the item for them or ask for the aid of an NPC. The crafted item can also be Soulbound.

The expansion will also introduce levels of quality to gathered reagents and crafted items as well. When a player crafts something of higher quality, such as gear, it can be of a higher item level. Potions crafted at a higher level may get a more powerful effect.

Higher quality will be obtainable via crafting specializations that can be earned in multiple ways. A couple of examples include finding old books and meeting with a hermit. This new update also means that a Blacksmith will be able to become an Armorsmith.
