The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that the next E3 conference will be June 15 to 17, 2021. According to a report from GamesIndustry.biz, industry partners were informed that the 2021 E3 conference will be a “reimagined” event.

E3 2020 was canceled earlier this year due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19. A spokesperson for the ESA said at the time that they “felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.”

E3 will return in 2021

E3 did not say what would go into a “reimagined” event, but a push towards more digital events and conferences would not be unexpected.

Since the cancellation of E3, most large gaming events have been canceled or rescheduled. Several major teams like 100 Thieves and Team Liquid have donated to help relief efforts.

On Friday, IGN announced a “Summer of Gaming” event. With E3 canceled, IGN wanted to fill the void by hosting its own kind of conference. This digital event will bring together an impressive number of partners to bring fans the latest gaming announcements. IGN will also be discussing potential from the next generation of gaming consoles. Some of the partners who will be featured at the event include Square Enix, Sega, Bandai Namco, Devolver Digital, and more. Our sister site The Escapist will be running a similar event, with details to come later.

Whether or not the ESA and E3 will host a digital event this year has yet to be confirmed. E3 2020 was originally scheduled for June 9-11, leaving the ESA plenty of time to announce a digital event of some kind. Stay tuned for further updates on events and their revised schedules at Daily Esports.
