Epic Games, owner of the Epic Games Store and developer of Fortnite, experienced some hacker problems earlier this year. As a result of these ongoing problems, which continue to victimize many platforms and their users, it appears the game publisher has decided to incentivize users to protect themselves with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
A large number of users to have complained to Epic Games lately. Many of them have received emails, such as the one shown above, notifying them that their account has been locked due to multiple invalid login attempts. Other emails include password reset instructions they did not request.
Hackers may be after these accounts so they can use them themselves or obtain personal information. Since this malicious behavior often results also in a customer support nightmare on both sides, Epic’s incentivization idea could prove a great help.
Free $10 Epic Games credit
A new ‘message of the day’ accidentally released in the in-game news feed. Titled “Epic Games Store Mega Sale,” its description went on to state, “Sign up for 2FA in order to get $10 to spend in the store.” Although Epic quickly took it down, players still saw it and spread the word.
Whoops! An MOTD snuck out about a sale. There is an Epic Games store sale on games in the works, but it hasn't launched yet. Stay tuned to @EpicGames for details in a few days.

The developers put out a statement on Twitter that the ‘message of the day’ hadn’t launched yet. However, this did confirm that it’s a work in progress and will be coming out soon.
Having players enable two-factor authentication for an incentive would surely help secure accounts and eliminate much of the unauthorized account usage. The decrease of angry emails and tweets from Fortnite players would no doubt be a positive benefit for Epic Games as a company.
Enabling 2FA on Fortnite
Two-Factor Authentication is a feature found on the Epic Games platform rather than directly through Fortnite. Like enabling 2FA on other platforms, such as email, logging into it on a new device will send an email with a unique code. Players can also use an authenticator app like Authy or Google Authenticator with this feature.
Players can enable 2FA by doing the following:
- Log into your epicgames.com account.
- Click on the ‘Account Settings’ tab in the top right corner.
- Click on the ‘Password and Security’ tab.
- At the bottom of the page, follow the instructions in the ‘Two-Factor Sign In’ section.
Previously, Epic Games had a promotion that also gave out emotes to players that turned on 2FA. Will you take advantage of this and enable two-factor authentication? Want to keep up with all of the latest Fortnite news and content? Keep track on our Fortnite page!
