Epic Games announces Fortnite Zero Build mode

Building is set to return to the main game in the near future

Epic Games confirmed the addition of a Zero Build mode to Fortnite on Tuesday, which allows players to “take the offensive in this no-build battle royale.” The Zero Build mode is available to play right now on all platforms.

Epic Games previously tested the potential of Fortnite without its signature building mechanic during Chapter 3: Season 2. At the beginning of the season, Epic Games removed building from the game completely. As a result, its gameplay became more akin to that of other battle royale titles.

Due to positive reception following the removal of building, Epic Games has established a permanent way for people to play the game this way. Of course, players who do enjoy building may not have to wait long for its return.

Though an official return has not been announced, the mechanic is slated to come back to the game in the near future. Nevertheless, players will still have the option to play without building even after it returns thanks to the Fortnite Zero Build mode.

Fortnite Zero Build a ‘pure test’ of combat skills

According to Epic Games, Fortnite Zero Build is a “pure test of weapon, item, and traversal ability.” With the removal of building as a defensive maneuver, this mode instead provides players with Overshield. This additional shield is the primary mode of defense players rely on in Zero Build mode.

Although this mode requires greater attention to grounded combat skills, it also includes additional movement options in order to help players to secure positional advantages. As a result, players may opt to make a good offense their primary form of defense.

One of the movement options in this mode is Mantling. This technique enables players to quickly scale walls and gain the high ground. In addition, players can use Ascenders to gain access to Blimps. These Blimps can provide players with a tool for aerial exploration.
