In the FIFA 21 Global Series disciplinary updates, EA said it “is committed to ensuring its players are competing in a safe and respectful environment as noted in the Electronic Arts Competitive Gaming (CGE) division Expectations for Inclusive Play.”

R10 is a South American FIFA team Brazilian legend Ronaldinho owns.

The story behind Renato’s ban from competitive FIFA

On March 22, Uruguayan player, Agustin “W1LKINS” called out Renato for abusing him because he refused to join the R10 team. In a now-deleted tweet, W1LKINS uploaded a video recording of his WhatsApp messages with Renato to Twitter.

In the WhatsApp messages Renato sent, he calls W1LKINS “a shitty shit who wasted his time”. He went on to say “I was at a barbecue and stopped to make your contract. Son of a bitch I want to talk to your father to explain the son of a bitch he has. We are going to eat you in the playoffs. We will eat you like a bitch on the street, with five blacks with you, son of a bitch”

Furthermore, W1LKINS stated that Renato blocked him immediately when he rejected the proposal of the R10 team. He also used the medium to complain about the toxic environment and the lack of mutual respect in FIFA esports. W1LKINS’ team, also released a statement about the incident, calling for action on this act of racism. In a response to the allegations, the R10 team tweeted that the manager will step asides from his duties for a while as he was under extreme stress.

On March 27, W1LKINS released a tweet stating that he had forgiven Renato. The translated version of W1LKINS tweet reads:

“After a sincere talk with Renato, we reached a common agreement to clarify things between us, and accept his apologies. I hope that this ugly experience will not be repeated with anyone; and now to move on, rivals not enemies. And to clarify a controversial question, I understand that the aggression did not have a racist connotation.”

EA implements permanent ban

Despite the earlier tweet from W1LKINS, EA decided to permanently ban the R10 manager for his racist remarks. EA stated that the ban was in response to behavior during interactions with a FIFA competitor.

Renato violated a part of the CGE Expectations for inclusive Play rules. His behaviour to W1LKINS fell under the category of individuals who exhibit racist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic or sexist behaviours. The R10 manager can no longer work or interact with EA on any CGE related competitions in any capacity.
