The first Middle Eastern interschool esports tournament is set to participate in this year’s GIRLGAMER festival. Although the festival’s mission is to celebrate women in gaming, it is also promoting esports education among the youth of Dubai.

When and where

Organizers will hold the GIRLGAMER festival in the Meydan Grandstand from February 19 to 22. The FIFA 2020 tournament will begin with a Qualifiers stage on February 21. Following this, students will take part in a Knockout stage with a grand prize for the winners. The 1st and 2nd place winners will then receive a scholarship totalling $255,000 AED ($69,423 USD).

Education, parents, and students

Luckily, GIRLGAMER has recently opened up the tournament to all schools in the United Arab Emirates region. Schools can sign up a maximum of two students per competition. This is a great chance for kids and parents to recognize the importance of esports and technology. Additionally, the tournaments give kids a chance to familiarize themselves with other players who share their interests. The main goal of Dubai’s first interschool tournament is to promote healthy competition and engagement.

Along with the tournament, there will also be a career and education fair available for students and parents. This is a great opportunity for families to learn about the diverse career options within the esports industry.

How do I join?

Any student that is part of the Dubai school system can join. They will split the tournament into two categories:

• Juniors tournament – open for 6-11 year olds

• Seniors tournament – open for 12-16 year olds

Students can also register their school online by filling out the form on GIRLGAMER’s website.

What is the GIRLGAMER festival?

The festival was originally founded with the intent to promote women in gaming. Countries that have hosted the festival include Australia, Brazil, and South Korea. This year, the festival will take place for the first time in Dubai.

Moreover, GIRLGAMER holds a grand event known as the GIRLGAMER World Finals, which features competitive CS:GO and League of Legends tournaments. Another big event is the Industry Conference, where they present recognized speakers in the esports industry. From cosplay competitions to educational opportunities, this event provides various services to every participant.
