A big switch in streaming platforms
DrLupo’s popularity skyrocketed when he went from streaming as a hobby to a full-time streamer. After gaining millions of followers, he made a deal with Twitch in 2019. Through playing games on screen like Destiny, Apex Legends, Among Us, Fortnite and many more, DrLupo became one of the top streamers on Twitch.
His popularity didn’t only come through games, though. One of the most popular moments of DrLupo’s streaming career was when he held a 24-hour stream and raised $2.3 million dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on December 22 of 2019.
DrLupo aims for more family time while on YouTube Gaming
In an interview with the Washington Post, DrLupo shared that he wanted to continue his streaming career but also spend more time with his growing family. He commented on this with a comparison to a movie he recently saw.
“Not to quote ‘Interstellar,’ because I just recently watched it on a flight back from Los Angeles,” DrLupo said, “but we are here to be ghosts for our children, memories for them. If I spend too much time doing this and not enough time being that memory for my kid, I don’t know what he’s going to grow up with.”
DrLupo also mentioned the challenge of growing on a new platform after building his success on Twitch. He shared that he already had so much success on Twitch that he wanted to try something new. Additionally, the benefits of this new contract with YouTube Gaming are assisting DrLupo financially with his family.
“The financial situation that YouTube presented me without a doubt is like, you know, I’m secure for life,” DrLupo said. “Everybody’s trying to get to that point. Why would I say no to that?”
